el34 36- watter: What Edcor trannies?

Post by MarkusV »

Hi Folks

For those who have used Edcor transformers:
Which ones would you recommend for a 36 watter with 2xEL34?

Please also comment on Triode transformers and what your choice may be there

Thanks!

I just looked at the Lite TMB 36 Watt schematic it says 550V @ 200mA lower than I expected ...
an 18 watt uses a 580V at 120mA transformer

my guess for an EL34 would be the Edcor XPWR008-120 for about $60 US$ it's 600V at 200mA

ClassicTone has a Marshall 50 watt that is 620V at 150mA

Are you intending to use a valve rectifier or diodes ?
The spec sheet(s) I'm going off say you want around 375v Plate voltage with a 130 Ohm shared cathode resistor & 1K screens into a 3.4K OT for 35 watts.
You'l be drawing up to 95mA on (each of) the plates & 20mA on (each of) the screens so you need some very chunky resistors !
I'm in the proces of rebuilding a Baby Will I modded to run 6V6s to run EL34s (testing an Antek Toroid PT) & I'm being very careful with the power rail on this baby !
