New 36W Parallel / Cascade
I just finished a new build for me yesterday. It's a 36W Parallel / Cascade amp, 4 ea 6BQ5's, 2 ea 12AX7's. It was something I had wanted to put together for a while, and Wow does it rip your head off with the gain knob rolled up. I had listened to what most follks here had to say about the difference in the 18W versus the 36W, and I see what they are talking about. I sense the air movement off the speakers a lot more, and I can definately feel the chest thump. Louder, yes somewhat, but the thump is undeniable. I'll post a photobucket link later today with pics.

Thanks Davie and Bronsboi. The standard sized board is pretty stuffed, had to turn a few components top to bottom to get it all on there. I used fixed resistors, totaled 206K. A couple more llinks below.

Pressed Rat, Thanks for the nice compliment. I think in the parallel mode there is more complexity, if that's a good definition, in the cascade mode more of a "baby plexi" brute tone. When builders on here described not hearing a lot more sound, just air movement, now I fully understand that description. It's not twice as loud, but is very loud noticably more than an 18w, but the air movement gives you the thump in the chest feeling, that's different from the 18W builds. I have an Edcor PT that I bought for another 36W build, this time with 6V6 tubes, and I'll go the parallel cascade again.

The only layout I have (that I currently use) is my very hacked personal layout-- one I revised by using microsoft paint, which is a version that I ripped off from the 18W TMB layout (apologies to Phil and others who took the time to produce a very fine TMB layout, and mine is so amatuer). I don't have a total 36 watt layout in either version. I just built the turret board on the fly following my hacked preamp layout for the 18watt cascade/paralelled version for the preamp section of the turretboard, then did the stacked section for the B+ that I came up with a few builds ago. That stacked section saves space on the typically sized spaced turretboards, that's needed to squeeze everything onto one turretboard. When I got to the B+ / PI section I used what few holes were left for the stuff that wouldn't fit. You would be welcome to a homemade copy of the 18W parallel/cascade version layout if you like, but I feel it's too amatuer to post on here. Terry
