Radio interference on TMB channel only

Post by POWDOG »

Hi guys. I built a 36 watt amp with EF86 and TMB channels. The EF86 channel sounds incredible, but I'm picking up a local radio station on the TMB channel. I'd there an easy fix to block RF on a single channel. I've used the usual shielding and lead dress, this is the first time I've picked up a radio station. Thanks for the help!

Since it is only on one channel it makes it easier to say what it is not caused by, i.e. guitar cable etc.

The RFI entry is likely to be at the input for the channel. If you have used shielded cable for the input connection, you should have only grounded one end of the shield and heat shrunk the other? Sorry if you already know about that but it is one possible cause.

If it is not that then check the input socket and the first few connections on the signal path from the TMB input for a poor or cold solder joint. Start at the input and work onwards searching for noisy joints. It is probably early in the path since it is a low strength signal which is amplified.
