Djeeezes Josh !!! You're ruining my high...
Anyway, there's a lot of work before I can start building. First prep the chassis.. transformer wiring , heater stuff... the zen time has already begun. I'm in the flow..

WTF??? That's $50 USD! The total on the customs label is $65 USD. How are they charging 77% tax?! Wow, that's really special.Bieworm wrote: βFri 03/26/21 3:39 pmBtw.. just got mail from the post office. It's going to be delivered... customs charge an extra 42β¬ !!!!! Criminals!!!!
Btw 2: I just noticed when installing the pots that you changed the layout sequence of the control plate... now I've gotta be careful with the wires from the board to the pots and not follow the layout there.
Yeah, crazy taxpeople... don't worry anyway.. this is my special project and most certainly a keeper amp.JMPGuitars wrote: βFri 03/26/21 5:10 pmWTF??? That's $50 USD! Yeah, be careful with wiring the pots. I didn't pay attention and had to redo two of the pots on the head version. Oops. lol
Why would it have any effect on noise? It's the same thing, but 3A instead of 1A.
That's what I was thinking too when ordering them. But now I took a closer look and the difference in size is immense.. started to make me wonder if it would have an impact on the noise level. Thanks for clearing this out for me..JMPGuitars wrote: βSun 03/28/21 6:11 amWhy would it have any effect on noise? It's the same thing, but 3A instead of 1A.
UF5408: Height: 5.3 mm, Length: 9.5 mm
Those look the same as the ultra-fast 3A rectifiers I use in doublers - GI856. The original General Instruments diodes are no longer available, but On-Semi makes a replacement, the MR856. I've compared the recovery time of the two using a scope, and they're virtually identical. These are neither better nor worse than smaller diodes in terms of noise. All rectifier diodes need to be kept away from high gain stages and 1M volume controls.
Thx! Didn't think of that option...great tip!!TriodeLuvr wrote: βMon 03/29/21 12:53 amThe unfiltered output of a SS rectifier is pretty ragged. Your meter probably can't read it correctly. If you're concerned, you could clip lead in a small cap like 10uF or so and check again.
