Metal vs Glass NOS 6v6 Tubes

Post by keith »

I reference to sound only, whats the general consensus on the metal version of the 6v6 tubes. I know some early fenders used some, but has anyone ever compared tonal qualities between the glass vs metal?

The metals ones have much lower specs (voltage and power), so they wouldn't 'plug and play' interchange with more "modern" (60s on) circuits.

It should probably be emphasised that the 6V6 (metal) is not the same valve as the 6V6GT we are familiar with. Similar yes, but not to be confused.

I like metal 6L6's; never tried a metal 6V6. If yours will live through the conditions, definitely worth a try, so you can let your ears decide.
