tube tester

Post by rexracer »

A friend gave me this. finally took the time to try it out. Seems to work fine once you set it right. any advice would be helpful in operating this thing or maintaining it. Cool old piece, glad it works. Is there a tube conversion chart with the old numbers?

One thing you can do to cross tubes is get the Tube Amp Database app from duncanamps.com. It's free and has stats and cross-refs on hundreds of tubes.

Thanks rjgtr, the window has all the settings for the tubes. I would like to get a visual tube chart to put above it for reference. The only control that doesn't have settings listed is the line control at the far bottom left. Does anyone know about this control?

The line control is used to setup for the actual voltage coming in from the wall. You hold the line button and adjust the Line control until the needle is on the line that separates the Red and Green sides of the meter (usually zero).

You might find the operating manual here:

I'd think about replacing the old Carbon comp resistors, they're fine in old amps for the mojo ect but in test gear you want resistors thart don't drift with age. Also have a close look and check for any electrolytics, they'll need replacing after 50 years for sure.
Mighty fine tester BTW.
