6G5/6E5 question

A while back there was some discussion about using the "cats eye" or "Magic eye" tubes as output indicators. I used a circuit that was posted here and incorporated a 6G5. While the tube does work somewhat, I was wondering if anyone else has tried to do this. I get some movement of the magic eye signal in the viewport but not a big range of movement. I'm wondering if the grid biasing is off or the signal level is overdriving the circuit?
Figured I'd ask before fiddling with the values...
