Am I the only one who finds "gut shots" so attractive?

Yes very neat!

And the Pro Jr just seems to have been invented to be turned into an 18W Lite II.

Paul, what's your B+ voltage there. Also I would have thought a Standby switch would be a nice addition...

Well I was thinking that 310V is actually at the high end for EL84s to be hitting them without a standby switch. Either an On-Off-On switch, or even a 555 timer driving a relay would do....

But, is there any real data out there that shows cathode lifetime versus cold voltage stress?? I've never seen anything like that. Only the subjective folk lore that tube life is reduced.Anybody know if there is an official spec for cumulative cold cathode stress time?
Yes, you do wonder. But I love my tubes far too much too let those nasty mean high voltages hurt them! baby
I could also try asking Dr Barry Vyse who used to be a tube designer himself, and ended up being the CEO of M-OV (Genelex). He lives not too far from me.

Guess what,
the sound of it is as overwhelmed as it looks. :D

Here's some avi files (sorry, they are large but it's the only way I know how to record with my digital camera).
