On the verge... next build

Post by Bieworm »

Hey fellas

On the verge of a new build again. This time a dual channel switchable amp experiment/platform.
Cleanish channel idea: AB763 based preamp, with more mids
OD channel idea: 2204 based preamp with single tone knob instead of TMB
Josh’s 1 tube reverb
LTP PI
6v6 output

The base schematic is almost finished.

To show I'm serious:

Any tips or contra advice?

Dual channels could be very useful. Have you ever thought about James tone controls instead of TMB? I wanted an amp for my current build that could create a sound I knew, but I'd probably use James if I built another. It has more loss than TMB IIRC, but a much wider range of adjustment.

Thanks, I will be looking into that. Since the 4th triode is a CF the more loss thing is relative. But OTOH I think about doing the TMB tone stack with fixed bass and mid and the pot only for treble, since that is the only knob I adjust between home playing and playing out. I tend to add treble in a band situation, but dial it back when I play at home.
Another (better) option would be perhaps putting a bass and mid pot on the chassis bottom , so they are still adjustable when I want to , without removing the chassis.
The reason for the single tone knob is that I will be using a deluxe reverb chassis again, so the normal channel part of the faceplate will be configured as vol-tone-gain.
