What version/layout should I build?

Post by Outlaws »

I have built a couple 5E3 amplifiers that came out really good (build threads are on TDPRI forum) and now I really want a Marshall. I am tempted to do a 2204 but I feel a TMB will get me what I want.

Is there a generally considered “best layout” or anything to avoid? I hear Mojotones kit has issues with how the wires are laid out and crossing that could be noise inducing. That said, their clip on YouTube sounds awesome.

Hi
Welcome to the forum. Personally I have no experience of any of the kit builds. There are plenty to choose from. But I can see that the more you pay the better parts you get, up to a point.

I am sure someone will be able to advise.

So I am wondering, I see the various layouts on the forum, some list high gain.

Is there an 18 watt variation that forgoes the two channel system and has one channel of a hot rodded circuit? More like a “Jose” modded 18 watt?

Welcome to the site! Personally, I'm a huge fan of the SuperLite TMB. I think it's probably what you're looking for. Single channel, lots of flexibility, and great tone. viewtopic.php?f=25&t=24430

I wouldn't build a kit in your case. I'd contact gdsamps.com for the transformers, and then source the parts yourself. If you don't know what to buy, we can help with that.

Thanks,
Josh
