18 Watt Tremolo preamp build

Post by rexindigo »

Hi 2 all, after several years of playing guitar and not soldering
i have a new project on the bench:
a tube driven tremolo preamp!
in my band we play several songs with guitar parts demanding a tremolo effect. so i dug out the 18 Watter i built in 20xx but i could not get it to work anymore.
I decided to just rebuild the tremolo channel of the 18 Watt as a preamp in front of another amp.
Has anybody ever succeded in a similar project?
Any comment is appreciated! thank You in andvance
Cheers Rex

In theory it should be fine depending on how you plan to do it. Are you asking for ideas, or do you have a plan?

Rick Campbell posted his has trem-o-drive design on the web some time ago. It is designed as a boost pedal w/tremolo. You could adapt it to your 18 watt or build it as a pedal to drive the front end of an amp.

Thank You for Your Replies
@ JMP Guitars: i did build it already, but it is thumping and noisy
@ Pressed rat: i will try to modify my build to the tremodrive
and my third idea in the moment is to build a new 18 watt amp from scratch with parts of the unit i build in 2006, found a good layout for this
i ll keep you infomed about my progress

Use the search function on the forum here:

search.php?keywords=thump+tremolo&fid%5B0%5D=4

It's fairly common in the troubleshooting phase.

This layout works well, only thing is the purple wires at V1 should be shielded.
