volume goes down when tone goes up

Post by mickster »

Hi guys I have an 18 watt that was built for me. On the non-trem channel the volume goes down when the tone goes above 6. Apart from that it is killer. Heaps of bass with a twin open back and a pair of WGS Black and blues.
I have found using 5751 for the PI works best 12ax7 is way too loud and dirty.
I use a 5751 for the v3 also, nice for the trem and is a cleaner thinner channel.
The v1 is a tungsol 12ax7 which is big and round, smooth.

That's not normal behavior. If you're comfortable looking inside the amp, you should compare the faulty channel to a schematic from here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=24434

Highlight each piece and connection only after verifying they're correct.

I'm glad to hear somebody likes the WGS Black and Blues, I'm looking forward to trying those out myself.

Thanks,
Josh
