transformer help

Post by geoff 1965 »

can anyone confirm the purpose of the lug marked "E" on this woden transformer?
i've looked online and can't find any info/schematic,there is no resistance/continuity between any other lug or casing and the seller thought it might connect to an electrostatic screen between the windings but i'm not sure what that means?
appreciate any help with this

My guess is yes, that is a shield and would be connected to ground. E meaning earth. I extend no warranty to this statement though

I'm guessing it's a shield. The Mercury Magnetics 18W PT, based on the Radiospares, includes a terminal labeled SCN for screen.

it's early day's with the amp so i'll double check before wiring it in.
was going to build Josh's superlite el34 but to be honest my 18W would be too loud for what i need without the PPIMV, i just play at home not wembley stadium! looking into a plexi/single ended.

Nice! Sounds like a fun project. The secondaries say 80mA, so that's not a lot of current. With an EL34 in SE, you'd draw that alone running 300V plates and 290V screens into a 3k5 load. Little more than half of that for a single EL84 running into a 4-5k load.

yeah i was thinking of a GZ34 with a 6V6 and have the 300-0-300 & 350-0-350 switchable for headroom vs breakup.maybe a 5Y3 would be more realistic!

The GDS spec'd Heyboer has the same.
