Power transformer (mains wiring for 230V) - help!
I am nearly finished my first 18 watt TMB amp project. I have two main queries:
The first, I was supplied with excess wires on my power transformer (PT) as it is universal (or else multi-tap?). The wiring diagram has shown two "blue wires" attached to the lower two inlets of a 2-up-2-down power switch (the upper two inlets are for live and neutral). On my actual PT, I have a blue wire (110v) and a white wire (120V). I'm in Ireland so mains is 230V.
**Trying to momentarily engage my rainman-esque brain**
Would I have to connect blue and white? another power winding diagram says blue connected and white NOT CONNECTED...I'm lost
Second query, I hasve excess wires on the primary side of my PT (not connected to anything). Is it dangerous to have them bare? How is best and safest way to approach side-lining them?
Kind regards

Pay close attention to the diagram you linked under 230V:mattosul wrote: ↑Fri 01/01/21 3:41 pmI am nearly finished my first 18 watt TMB amp project. I have two main queries:

Black = 0V,
Brown & Grey = connected together,
Blue = 230V,
White = no connection.
A switch would connect or disconnect the PT Blue wire to the power inlet L.
Unused leads should be clipped and heatshrinked. The brown & grey series connection wires should also be heatshrinked after soldering them together.
Thanks,
Josh

Unused PT leads should be heat shrinked and sidelined with ties in a way they cannot touch anything else.

I have the same PT's in my 18 watts. I like them. Very clean stuff.
You mean the unused 5V winding that's obsolete? They are there if you want to put in another rectifier like a GZ34 or 5AR4 and such.. the EZ81 doesn't need a separate heater wiring. So I cut them to like 5cm in length and then put heatshrink on them.

Great. Thanks for the feedback and advice.
The blue wire needs to be connected for 230V to the switch. Does the black wire of 0v need to be connected to the switch also or is it also an unused wire requiring heat shrinkage.
Best, Matt

This is not all correct. The fuse should be on L, not N.
Besides that, 0V can be connected directly from IEC to the PT, or switched as drawn.
Thanks,
Josh

That drawing is correct. Your big issue was fusing the N instead of L on the other drawing. That's a big no-no in most countries.
