Effect loop, phones out...

Post by clau30 »

Hello all!

What is the effect loop (in and out) in an amp different from the guitar -> effects -> amp setup? Is it worth to add it to the 18Watt lite 2b? If yes, how? :D And how could I add an Phones-out Jack?

Thanks!

If you like to use a lot of Chorus, Reverb and Echo then an effects loop could be very useful. Do a forum search and you'll see a few threads on the subject with some partial schematics.

The headphones out would be trickier. The problem there is that it wouldn't sound like the amp through the speaker, since the speaker adds to the coloring of the sound. It is a little more tricky than with a solid state amp, where it is easier to do this. You could get a Weber Mass or THD Hot Plate and run the line out into a mixer to monitor it with headphones.

I use an ISO box at church to keep the volume down. It isn't absolutely silent, but the drummer more than drowns it out! It works good, except you lose the coupling of the amp and guitar that happens at high volumes. Otherwise it works great.

Don't pay the extreme prices Randall charges, just build it yourself. If you have meager woodworking skills it is not that hard. The Randall box is about 3 feet tall. As long as you make it big enough internally it will work well.
