WATKINS DOMINATOR CABINET

Post by user669 »

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if any of you nice people out there own a Watkins Dominator and if you do would you be willing to help me with the cabinet specs.

I have been wanting to offer this cabinet on my website for a while now and nobody in my area owns one for me to copy.

If someone out there is willing to take the time to help me by posting detailed photos and sizes of everything I think I would not be the only one greatful. Others would benefit from this information also.

THANKS!!!

EDIT!!
HERE IS THE FINISHED PROTOTYPE!

I know.

(You could probably ballpark it... I'm working something up in Visio right now for a standard 18W chassis.)

What I have so far.

Post by user669 »

Here is what I got so far. This is my prototype.....

There are going to be some changes for the production cabinet.

This is 24" across 20" high it will fit an 18 watt combo chassis.

Let me know your thoughts out there so I can fine tune this baby.

Oh.. and I cut the speakers for 2 - 12...

That looks good to me!... what's the width of the sides?... and the degree on the front angle?

In Visio it was looking like I'd need a 7" side panel width (to have enough room for my 36W iron) and that the angle at the front was roughly 30 degrees. (Or 15 degrees off of a flat front for each side... however you want to look at it.) 24" x 20" was also the smallest dimension that I had thought would work.

Nice work. How much to build me one uncovered/unfinished just like your prototype there?

tarzanalog,
Thanks,
The sides are 5" but 7" could be done by adding 2" to the rear. The front angle that I used was 28 dergees and met up in the center. Which gives about 13.5" for each V side.

I noticed after I did this prototype that I made the front cutouts too rounded in the corners. I see now in some pictures I found on the net that the vintage cabinets have more of a sharp corner to them.

About pricing...
Feel free to e-mail me to talk shop, I don't want to post any information that might upset the forum rules.

OKay thanks,

I wrote Reg and I will post any information he gives me.

I have a feeling that we are pretty close to the right size. But I do want to double check.

i'm going to take this photo and run it through some vectoring software that i have. i should be able to get pretty exact dimensions based on the cd case sitting on the top if the amp.

Holy cow, a Watkins echo unit? Cool, did'nt know they made one. Thats a great cab, always thought the newer 18 watter would be cool in it, Be curious how it sounds out front with the splayed speaker setup. Good luck with it, prototype looks awesome.

Regards,
