New 2x10 makes a big difference

Post by Phil_S »

I've not been totally satisfied with my TMB18W head. On a lark, and shoestring budget, I built a 2x10 with Celestion G10E-30's. This morning I ran my 18W through it. Being home alone helped. I found that the amp actually sounds great when it's wide open. Previously, with other speakers, it was too buzzy dimed. It was also the first time I found the TMB controls made a very noticeable difference. Previously, I was running it thorough a 12" W Blue Dog, a Celestion G10L-35, or a Jensen C12R 2x12, which are all really nice speakers. It's just that none of them mate particularly well with this amp. This is just a comment that finding the right speaker makes a huge difference. I guess many of you already know this, but celebrating success alone just isn't the same as sharing!

Great that it's working for you! I have a Red Fang 10 which is a beast, volume-wise, definitely doesn't suffer from that raspy thing you can get with 10s. The Lil Buddies are also great.
