What about these "speakers"?
http://www.sfxtechnologies.com/products.html#
Specifically, the G.A. 6.2 model.
I understand that the front of the cabinet may need some R&D to get the radiation of wound correct, but man, what a weight savings these would give!
I am interested in any intelligent, non-hysterical purist answers!

There are several other models that are in R&D that are not on that site yet (according to their support people), can you direct me to a freq response chart for a normal guitar speaker?krx wrote:Those will probably sound awful for guitar (harsh and honky with little bass). Look at the frequency response chart and compare it to any guitar speaker chart -- not even close to similar.
THANKS!

Hi-fi wankers look for frequency response on the oder of 20Hz to 20KHz. Adult humans can't actually hear anything at either end of that range.
Your typical guitar starts around E2 (82Hz) and goes up to about 5KHz. Frequency chart here: http://www.phy.mtu.edu/~suits/notefreqs.html
Instrument speakers are a totally different animal from hi-fi speakers. Use the right thing for the application.

If you're looking for weight savings then a speaker with a Neodium magnet is probably your best bet. They weigh less and are very efficient. Both Celestion and Eminence make guitar speakers using that technology. It is not the cheapest way to make a speaker, but if weight is important, it is an option.
