Why is it that.......

....when i see other people's builds it looks like the boards are as wide as mine, yet the resistor leads seem to reach the turrets all the way across the board? When i bought my parts from tubesandmore the resistor leads of the 1/2 watts wouldn't reach. Is there a perticular brand you all use that have longer leads?

Probably they're actually using 1W or 2W resistors, which is what I normally use as well. Modern resistor sizes seem to have become a lot smaller than they used to be. I even have some 2Ws that are the same size that 1/2Ws used to be in the old days....

the NOS or old resistors have much longer leads, than the new ones they are making nowdays..

So then what about those 1 and 2 watters at tubesandmore that i think are those flameproof numbers with the chalky surface. Is there a tonal difference between those and the glossy 1/2 watt films? I'm considering a new board and components once i'm finished tweaking mine to make it nice and clean and solid after all the soldering and un-soldering during this experimental stage. So unless anyone can tell me there is a sonic difference i guess i'll use the 1 watters.

someone just acouple weeks ago was talking about using all 1W resistors...you should consider that the 1W leads are thicker than those of the 1/2W, making it more difficult to fit mulitple leads (from resistors and wires/caps) into one eyelet or one pot/jack/tube solder lug. you're in a tight spot if you've already drilled holes into your board, but from what you're saying i understand that you're going to build a new board anyway. in that case i'd use 1/2W's and place the turrets closer together. twice now i've kept the turret spacing too wide and have regretted it. when they're closer together, they're easier to work with. Of course, spread em out for large caps and such...

anyway, that's just what i'd do ;-)

Seems like many bards are wider than the original. Once O bought a board off ebay and it was considerably larger and didn´t fit the original mounting holes as well. Finally, I made my own board using the original dimensions and had no problems.
