I'll send a pair of Polams for the amp/care package.

(Brownnote, this is minor, but if you don't have the power switch covered already, I'll send over a Carling on/off/on polarity switching deal. Just let me know.)

Also will think about how to promote the raffle...

how about promoting it on eBay with the 18watt loud and proud! we can all bid it up too!!! put the story on the listing. actually, an all out raffle might generate more cash for the family. we should all promote this best we can. $10 tix?

I don't mind setting up a 'raffle ticket product' on my site. you could use your credit card to purchase as many raffle tix as you like. besides the credit card 1.5% ding, that might be the easiest way to do something like this.

I have a JTM 45 that Mark help me tweak and bias for a killer heavy tone.

carbon comps orange drops, ruby heyboer rs type transformers plexi face and back plate. and chicken heads, mil spec pots etc.

Its built but has no head cabinet.

If someone could set up a preliminary raffle, its theirs.

I figure this could be a test run for the 18watter raffle.

Ill post pics and send it directly to whomever.

hey archtop...that looks cool. how about you take it to kinko's and have them screen it in reverse on the back side of some plexi. that could be the 'badge' if you will.

who is building this thing? i vote for dartanion. whoever is in the bay area can meet over his place and we can piss off the neighbors all day:)

oh yeah, has the trailer arrived?

I do not want to over step... I know this is a community.
What you guys are doing for Marks family is unbelievable.
I know Im way out of my league... Im only a player.
But would you guys consider building Mark's "Vajra" model
18 watt? Mine is priceless to me. Of coarse, he gave it to me.
And he had plans for two more.(he was never satisfied...)
I thought in the spirit of all the amps he will never build,
this might be a good idea. Even just using Vajra somewhere
in the name would be a nice tribute.

Again, I will tell Sherry what you guys are doing.
Im sure it will offer some comfort...

THANK YOU

That's a great idea! When will the tickets be available?

I've been offline a few days. I feel awful. Graydon and Mark made this all happen. It's so sad. I bought some iron from Mark once. I had to badger him to actually cash the check.

Kenny, do you know what vajra and vana mean?

I have to work a catering gig today, but I'll try to put a full list together of everything that has been offered. However, it appears as though we will easily have all parts covered, and then some.

Also, I can certainly do the build, but it would probably mean more to one of Mark's closer friends to build this amp.

As for marketing the raffle tickets, whatever works and is legal is fine with me.

Vajra is the thunderbolt or diamond that destroys all ignorance.

Vana is a Tolkien character...right?

I like the raffle idea as well.... definitely best way to get more people to contribute I think. This way there is a larger amount of $ regardless of what the amp would go for..

I've wanted to help since I heard the news, and at first thought was going to donate partial proceeds of an amp/cabinet that I've been trying to sell for a while. After talking with my lovely wife about it, we have decided to donate the whole amp to the raffle - I know it's not an 18watt, but it could make an awesome 2nd prize or ?? It's about 2 months old, near perfect (slight nicks in blue tolex). I have added wheels to the cab (detachable). Here's the specs:

THE BLUE™ 100 W AMPLIFIER HEAD

+ 4 separate preamplifier channels, selectable either from the front panel or foot switch
Clean channel controls:
Volume, Treble, Middle, Middle Sweep, Bass, Dynamic Presence
Crunch channel controls:
Volume, Gain, Treble, Middle Shift, Bass, Boost
Lead A and B channel controls:
Volume, Gain A, Gain B, Treble, Middle, Middle Sweep, Bass and Contour (for Lead B only)
Master Controls:
Volume, Reverb, Cut, Reverb Selector Hi/Lo

+ Processor controlled channel and reverb switching
+ Balanced Direct output
+ Effects loop
+ 5 way foot pedal included
+ Accutronics reverb
+ 5 x 12AX7 preamplifier tubes
+ 4 x E34L special power amplifier tubes
+ CELESTION loudspeakers in all our Combos and enclosures
+ Our forte: EVERY KIND OF GUITAR PLAYER WILL FIND THAT SPECIAL PERSONAL SOUND

Dimension in mm:
The Blue 100 Head 270 (H), 560 (W), 275 (D), weight including foot pedal 24,5 kg

With top 4x12 cabinet & footswitch. Here's a picture (same stock pic at moment):

Wow,

This is the spirit that built 18W.com!!
After a year of such turmoil, This is without a doubt the one of the best community efforts that has taken place here since the founding of this group & site.

I have been a very long time lurking reader here, And only a passive poster for a year or so. And I see it as this as an prime example of what this group is really about!!
Everyone has gathered at a time of need for one of our own and put forth the most thoughtful ideas and contributions.
Now, Lets make it happen! I am ready to send my offered set of JJ tubes Priority Mail to the leaders of this project. If not used in the amp, Great, Add it to the hope package or secondary prize packages.
Lets go for it and show why some of the members and this forum consists of some of the Best of The Best!!

This is a true legacy event and I am certain Mark would have been very proud of everyone needless to say.

I am stunned by the generosity pouring out here. :D 8O :D

I am certain Mark D would be completely embarrased and perplexed by all this fuss...but I'm equally sure his family will be able to use whatever money we can raise in his memory.

I firmly agree a Mark D design would be most appropriate, and I like the Vajra idea.

I'll also volunteer to build it (unless S2 or someone else close by wants to), since it seems we have more than enough materials already.

I don't remember the whole story, but Mark told me he named the Vajra after an aspect of one of his daughters (the one I have not met). I seem to remember him telling me she is of Asian descent and Vajra is the key symbol of a branch of Buddhism where she was born.

I could be wrong, but that is what I remember. He told me this maybe 2 years ago when he loaned me the Vajra for a couple of months, so it's a little fuzzy.
