You guys seen this new amp nic's got on his website? Might be just what I'm looking for (36w girth and vox sounds all in one). I take it I could probably use Heyboer transformers in it (really like the way they sound). Is Rich helping to design this new amp?

Wanting to pull the trigger on this amp is what brought me to this site in the first place. Seems like everything I'd ever need as well. After researching here and elswhere I'm STILL planning to order one of these by this weekend when my Paypal account hits $750. (Built and to my door for that?!? No brainer.)

Now that he has DHL shipping, I may have to consider him strongly for some things. Granted I like building these things, but hey a completed JTM45 with tubes shipped for like 715.00 is pretty hard to not think about. Even with a head cab (bought elsewhere) its pretty much under a grand and thats hard to beat.

@JTone: Just give me a week or two so to finish the amp.
I got a EF86 36er from Nik.
First of all i would like to point out that his service is great.
It´s my first DIY and therefore i have a lot of questions

Nik always replies fast, comprehensive and polite.

Unfortunately a pot and the plexi plates did not survive the shipping -
replacements arrived few days later in perfect condition.

I will post some recordings as soon as the amp comes to life

i got my trannies from Shinrock; Germany
It´s a normal 36Watt Set for OT and PT.
Nothing special.

for wiring i asked a friend of mine for help because this one is the first diy amp for me and i do not realy know that much about building amps.
he´s familiar with and so i decided to ask him ... building without any experience seemed to be a bit risky.

hm,
it´s alive but unfortunately with a loud hum.
the sound in general is great, but there is this hum..... might be a ground prob somewhere.

little update: hum is history.
the ground wiring to the master was changed to a shielded one and the amp is dead quiet.
we are facing a new problem... the tonestack of the EF86 does not work effective and the tone of this channel is ear piercing.
any ideas someone ?

Gruesse! Congratulations on your build, and that goes double for the hum!

The tone control for that circuit is a variable coupling cap selector, which is effectively a hi-pass filter. As such it provides no treble rolloff, just varying degrees of low-cut. I see that you are a Fender guy, and with single coils this low-cut may not be as apparent as it would be with humbuckers. Try it with a Les Paul and you'll probably find it works well for what it was designed to do.

To control the treble, just use your guitar's tone control. Or you might experiment with the bright cap on the volume control. If you only play Fenders, you might not need it in there.

the amp works fine now.
failure on the tone stack....we tried it out at very low master volume settings

that´s all - my super reverb show the same behaviour at lowest levels with a booster in front.
it will also sound like a mosquito in a mug.
my friend tried it yesterday evening again after some checking with an half open master and the amp sounds great.
i will take it out for a first gig on saturday and keep you guys informed about.

and no - i´m not only playing strats. my les pauls and custom builds are used as much as the strats.

check the gounding of tone stack and resistance of middle and bass pots(that they are not broken). If tone stack has no ground it acts like booster of at least 20 dB(you can add switch here, like Mezzas MARK I do), and EF86 has a lot of gain, check also feedback of EF86. otherwise I have no other ideas.

and sound clips.... my mics and the recording stuff is not here today.... hopefully on saturday before giging i will be able to record some files.
