Hi,
i owned a JTM few years ago and just finished my 36er TMB:
Difference in volume: none
Difference in TONE: huge
The JTM is one of the most beautiful sounding clean Amps i ever heard.
It´s different to my Blackface Fender but the sweet shimmering Tone of an old JTM loaded with KT Powertubes is something special.
Without any mods a JTM does not have so much Gain compared to the 36er.
My new build has Gain up to classic 80´s Metal Leadsounds and
probably due to the EL84 Power Tubes the Distortion is much smoother.
Hope that helps

Hi,
I have a fully working 36W prototype in my test bench. I'm still waiting for new chassis and Heyboer transformers
for assembling the final version (Head-4x10Slant).
I also have a couple of vintage Fenders, and have built many clones, including a 18WTremCombo-1x12, and a JTM50Head-4x12Slant.
I totally agree with everything 7enderman said.

indeed, very nice cleans, I always thought that the JTM45 is the amp for me.... but... since I heard the cleans of the Richies 36 watters, I´m almost sold to them... so shimmery, with some touch of Vox type of cleans (maybe due to the EL84´s output section?) and the dirty like a marshall plexi with a Vox-like touch too. My only concern is if those cleans are really useable in live situation, I mean enough clean headroom...
so I need some help to decide waht to built since I cant try them (JTM45 and 36W RP)...
Thanks,
Pez

so, are the cleans in the 36 RP usable in live situation? how they (36 watt and JTM45) differ in responsiveness, break up??
One thing I noticed when listening to the jtm45 clips is the lack of punch.. it seems to me that the 36 watter is more punchy.. is really like that or maybe the clips I heard are not enough good and the JTM45 is as punchy as the 36 watt??
what do you think would produce the fattest sound?
I´m looking for a really punchy fat tone (fat like cream-era clapton but punchier)
thanks fellas!

FWIW, I was trying to make this same decision for the last two months. The JTM45 cleans can be amazing and I really want one to put on top of my Marshall 8x10! (Supposedly Jim Marshall's favorite rock tone of all time is a JTM45 through an 8x10 cab. GOTTA hear that someday.) However, I ordered up the same Ceriatone 36W TMB EF86 kit that 7enderman has last week. Mine will have the stock Ceriatone iron, while his has that crappy Shinrock stuff. (jk)
Why did I choose that over the JTM45?!? The EF86 channel should satisfy my Vox lusting, and the TMB channel should get me most of the way to the gainy sounds that I've been looking for. I'm hoping that I'll be able to slap my Rodenberg GAS-808 in front of that and channel EVH all day.
My $.02...

P.S. I'm building mine into a head cab and making a matching Marshallesque 2x12 with a Hellatone 30 and Alnico Gold.

Hi Ingo,
don´t feel angry with Tarzanalog.
I guess you missed the hint in brackets - he was just joking.
The guys in my band are very impressed how your "crappy stuff" sounds.
We had a little comparison last week.
My new Amp vs. an original 2061X and the 2061X lost this competition clearly.
I think your reputation is immaculate - so there is no need to defend yourself.
cheers
MIKE
@Trazanalog:
Attenuator is already bought and on the road i guess, Cabinet is still at home, Amp will come back at the end of this week from my tech.
So be prepared for some soundfiles soon
And don´t be disappointed too much that my amp will sound better with these shinrock irons
And be sure... your amp will work perfect with a TS in front - i will go with an attenuator and a cranked amp because i prefer the pure sound of the amp.
But i tried a TS808 in front and it sounds fine for me.

(I WISH I could have sprung for Shinrocks in my clone!)

I have several original TS9s and many clones and the Rodenberg pedal slays them all. You Germans know what you're doing over there... methinks. Are you guys familiar with Ulrich's pedals?7enderman wrote:And be sure... your amp will work perfect with a TS in front - i will go with an attenuator and a cranked amp because i prefer the pure sound of the amp.

Yes we are, but to be honest, we have a couple of our own boutique pedal builders here in germany and hey - i ride harley davidson, i play fender amps and one made in malaysia, guitars from gibson and fender too - sometimes it is the right time to say "buy german"You Germans know what you're doing over there... methinks. Are you guys familiar with Ulrich's pedals?
I´m happy with my stuff made by UK-Electronic (TS Clones with Boost) and OKKO so there is no need to look after anything else.

hey guys! the former topic was that I couldnt decide which amp. the Richie 36 or the jtm45, I want to build. Im going to order it with Nik at Ceriatone. But still I cant decide which!!!!, I would like the people with experience in both amps to discuss the pros and cons, their toughts, their feelings, their opinions on both amps. It would be highly appreciated, really....
how they break, how they work with pedals, loudness, cleans, every piece of info is greatly appeciated since I cannot try those amps before the order and at the oment I can build just one... thanks in advance and please discuss!!
Pez
p.s. hey Enderman, how would zou compare your Shrinrock tranies to those of Nik?? I ask cause Im living in Germany at the moment and I have the chance to get them and match them to the Ceriatone kit..

Pez,
How loud is your band?!? Is your bass player using a 200W Hiwatt stack AND an SVT rig?!?... or a little combo? Is the drummer heavy handed?!? Do you mic up the whole band on a regular basis?
I mean, the amps will sound different, but if you can't decide which tone you like better then just decide if you really NEED the extra volume that the JTM45 would provide for cleans. When overdriven I'd say it's a close call even then, because I think the 36W would tend to "cut" through in the mix a little better than the JTM45, but the JTM45 would probably still be "louder".
I think the 36W would be the hands-down winner just on sheer versitility, though. If it were me (oh wait... it is!) I'd get the 36W (and am... spoke with Nik today and it'll be here soon!) for that reason and for the fact that you could always get a JTM45 later for loud cleans. (Which is where it really excels!)

Nik has "golden ears" and I believe his transformers are *very* good. But Shinrock's are the best you can buy. He even uses the original materials from Britain,m used in the original RS 18W transformers. I have a Shinrock OT in one of my amps. If you're in Europe then I recommend you use Shinrocks. You won't be dissapointed.pez_espada wrote:...how would zou compare your Shrinrock tranies to those of Nik?? By all means, keep us (or, at least , me) appraised of this build. I'm VERY much interested....tarzanalog wrote:However, I ordered up the same Ceriatone 36W TMB EF86 kit that 7enderman has last week.
