Anyone built a EL34 PP w/ EF86 or 6SJ7 preamp? Schematic?

Done tweaking my 36W and thinking about next project. A buddy (blues player) wants me to build him a PP EL34 amp with a pentode preamp. (He loves the EF86 channel on my Ceriatone.) I'll help him out, but only if I can incorporate my desire to build a version of the "Octal Fatness" amp only with the PP power section?

Any suggestions?

Isn't there a Dr Z design around with an EF86 preamp and KT66 power amp? It would be pretty easy to mod that to use EL34s. Or else build the OF preamp and place it in front of a Matchless Clubman power amp. That would work.

absolutely is....its floating around under the name route 66.

I have not built it, but it looks like it would work fine...Very simple design as well. Could probably almost just slap el34's in and go, go, go.

Here is a schematic of an amp using the 6SJ7 in the preamp and 6SL7 for the PI, It runs 6V6's in the PA.

Yes, that one could also be pretty easily adapted to take EL34s.

What's the best way to go to do a minimalist build of this idea.

1 input, Pentode preamp, 6-position tone switch like my 36W, recovery triode, PI, EL34s, OT?

Gonna order the iron I need from the MM group buy and I'm welcoming ideas on the best set of iron for the job.

It'll have to be a head so the multi-tap OT is a MUST. What's the feeling on UL?
