Any use for 6CL8A??

Post by snoof »

Found a few at work. Just wondering If anyone knows of a good use for them. Apparently it's a triode and tetrode in 9pin form??

Actually, it's a tetrode and a triode. It's an oddball tube. You might be able to use the tetrode sort of like an EF86 for the first stage, and design a triode stage around the other half. The triode has a gain of 40. That is about the same as a 12AY7 but it appears otherwise to be more similar to a 12AT7.

OTOH, you might use a couple to build a low wattage amp with the triodes as the outputs (Ra=5K) and the tetrodes as the preamps.

If these were mine, they would look like something I'd use for eBay fun. Start the auction at $0.01.

thanks for the info. BTW, where in the specs do you get the data about "gain of 40", I've never been able to find that info in the tube sheets??

Probably listed as "amplification factor."
