Hi All,
has anyone tried to improve the sound of one of these amps?? I figure at $300 its not a bad deal.. and with a little tweaking you might be able to get some good sounds out of it..

For $300 I doubt I would even plug it in before gutting it. Your getting a head, chassis, transformers for 4xEL34 output, tubes, knobs, etc so $300 is a pretty good deal. Tweaking? I wouldn't bother as there are probably a million parts inside and enough oddball things to lead to "why am I DOING this?"

my logic is that it wouldn't take much tweaking to get some usable tones

True, but where is the sense of adventure, fun, and DIY in that? :D

I agree. I've considered this myself. Even you if end up gutting the whole thing, for 300 bucks you get the case, tolex, chassis, power transformer, some kind of an O/T. Even a broken one would be a good deal. It would make a great 50 watter by pulling two of the four power tubes out.

indyguitarist had one of these... he ran it dimed. I have heard this thing with preamp distortion and it sounded like @$$. The trick is to crank it almost like a NMV and man it sounded pretty sweet to me! But at a 100watts, yeah you'd want to attenuate. 8) are these down to 300$ now? wow.
