For $300 I doubt I would even plug it in before gutting it. Your getting a head, chassis, transformers for 4xEL34 output, tubes, knobs, etc so $300 is a pretty good deal. Tweaking? I wouldn't bother as there are probably a million parts inside and enough oddball things to lead to "why am I DOING this?"

I agree. I've considered this myself. Even you if end up gutting the whole thing, for 300 bucks you get the case, tolex, chassis, power transformer, some kind of an O/T. Even a broken one would be a good deal.
