Anyone have any experience with Shinrock Transformers?

I found a link somewhere thru here for Shinrock Transformers, and am kit building a 36 watt EF86, and was impressed with the web page and the info there, so ordered a set of trannies from them,...

I still have not received them, and was wondering if there is anyone here with any info to shed light on the whole manufacturing process, and how long it should take for a reasonable order to arrive.......

No answers to the 6 or 8 Emails,........

Are they out of business, or....

someone sick,.....

did I get taken for $230.....????

what's up,..... any info, or input regarding this company, and/or it's owner/operator,

IIRC, Ingo was either under the weather or moving or something like that and had quite a backlog. I've never used them, but from what I've heard, it's worth the wait.

I have to agree.
I think my money would go elsewhere, no matter how good his trannies, or how busy he is.

Ingo lives in a remote part of Germany near the Swiss border. From what I understood he's moving house and has no Internet access for the time being. He is also a very straight and honest guy who builds these transformers by hand in his spare time, as a hobby. At one point he was going to stop doing transformers after he broke his arm, IIRC after an accident with his winding machine. Delivery times are erratic. And the more e-mails he answers, the less transformers he builds. I got my OT from him in three weeks. Some other folks appear to have sometimes had to wait nearly a year. So if you're in a hurry Shinrock's not a good choice. If you want a very close recreation of the RS transformers used by Marshall, with exactly the same kind of winding pattern, cores, bibbons, paper and varnishes, etc and you don't mind waiting, then Shinrock is the way to go.

If that time frame is real, It will only mean it won't be for this build.

I will wait till the need is there, and deal with it at that time.

right now, it is still just ordered parts.

I have plenty of tubes, over three hundred between all the pre, and power of different types, brands etc.

I do not need to get worked up about another bottleneck.

Plenty of other choices out there,... maybe for this one I'll just end up with mercury or,....??? who knows...

New info from Shinrock,....

There appears to have been a mixup with another order, and mine will be done in about three weeks,.....

YaaaY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I knew it had to be sumpthin like that....

Should get here about the same time as all the rest of the parts.... and should not take long to do up... just gotta decide how I am gonns do the box....

and also hone in on something for a cabinet,... 2 tens I think.... Tone Tubbies?

maybe Celestion,....we'll see I guess, I have some ideas to try out....

He Emailed me again, and my order will be done and shipped within the next week to 10 days,.....

I ordered an OT. It took a couple of years, but I finally got it.

As Zaphod said, he lives in a remote region of Bavaria. Building transformers is a hobby(!) and he is swamped with work. Add to that rumors of ill health...

UPS shipping with tracking numbers would be far more than the price of the part. My first order got lost in shipping. He sent me another OT, plus a PT, and asked me to put in a good word for him on 18W.com. He's not a crook, just a meticulous Bavarian country boy with an odd hobby. And the more time he spends at the computer, the less time he has to wind transformers.

hi,
as mentioned by Phil Ingo was seriously injured and out of the business for a while.
But believe me - it will worth the time.
In my 36er are Shinrock made PT and OT and the Amp sounds killer.
I had the chance to hear one of these first series 1974X amps with the Marshall OT and after it blows up with a Shinrock - sounds much better with the Shinrock made one

I've been waiting since April 2006. In November '06 he said there was a mix up with the American duty. That was the last time I heard from him.

VERY BAD NEWS

On shinrock website:

"Sorry for very bad news.

My daughter Muriel, 12 years old, has a brain tumour and is lying in hospital. I have all orders and will ship them out as soon as possible. I will take no new orders, I will answer e-mails , but I can´t promiss in 48 hours"

This is one of the worst things a man can face so all I can hope is his daughter gets over as soon as possible.

I still have not heard from him after several Emails,... I hope he has delt with his lifes disruptions, and is still surviving.....

and am wondering if he is out of business????
