Anyone have any experience with Shinrock Transformers?

Good luck to you! I ordered my OT back in January - still no transformer and no response to my emails from Ingo.

Shinrock has all the appearances of being a real legit business however the reality is that there is one (probably overworked) guy with more than his share of personal problems and apparently very little time to dedicate to maintaining this sideline business.

Your situation is not unique and seems to be common situation with Shinrock/Ingo as in addition to you,caseyl and myself, I have seen several other folks in similar or worse condition on their orders.

Just for future reference, I have bought several output transformers now from Graydon/GDS and Nik/Ceriatone and have been very pleased with their products - their support has been fantastic! And I can't imagine that I could get any better tone with a Shinrock OT.

What do you think Ceriatone trannies good like a Heyboer made?
I very love my TAD trannies (i think Heyboer), but very expensive.

I am 100% satisfied with my Ceriatone Trannies – tone-wise, build, support.

I did a side by side tone comparison to a real 1974x and my 18watt has a fuller 3 dimensional tone with much better definition than the Marshall. However to be fair I have GE NOS EL84s (the best - IMHO), a Telefunken smooth plate V1 and current production Tungsols in V2 & V3, the Marshall was using the stock tube compliment. This may have had more to do with the 3d and definition than the tranny. I used the same speaker cab with Celestion V30s in both cases to eliminate this as a factor.

Regardless I'm not tempted to change the OT as I have tweaked this amp for the Ceriatone and have set the "no-further-tweaking" bit on this amp. I have addressed, very successfully, the often mentioned, bassy personality of this amp with tone stack mods and tube selection.

Visually, the GDS OT looks more vintage and appears to be potted, whereas the Ceriatone is "plain-Jane" and not potted.

I did put a GDS OT into a 6V6 Plexi (ala M.Huss) and the sound is great but very different from the 18watter due to the sonic difference between fixed bias 6V6s and the cathode biased EL84s. I have tried NOS RCA and Tungsols but ended up with Mullard/Brimar CV511 (6V6) to get a bit more high end definition. I love both amps but the 18 watt TMB equipped with Ceriatone is my favorite.

Support-wise: Many times I have gotten responses to my emails within minutes from Nik (probably because we're in the same time-zone) and Graydon always responds with 24 hours.

Overall I would say that the GDS looks a bit more sturdy than the Ceriatone, but no surprises here as you get what you pay for. However considering all factors including cost, quality, sound and support, I am completely satisfied with the trannys from either Ceriatone or GDS.

Graydon and Nik both run 100% professional businesses and I would not hesitate to endorse either.

So I guess now that I have the money actually invested in both a C-tone, and Trannies from Shinrock,.... (Fully paid for in April) and as yet have STILL not recieved either the goods, or any answer to my emails I am considering putting a outside limit of 1 year for my patience, and then turning the man in to European authorities for theft.

I don't understand anyone who appears to operate an up and up business, and is accepting funds for an item manufactured by that business,... and yet, has a dim record of customer relations.

We as humans, do accept a lot from our fellow planet dwellers, as truth, and as trusting individuals, respond to each other and supposedly conduct ourselves according to each others interpretation of the best way to be.

This man has violated the trust of several people here, and I'm sure, of other places as well,...

at the VERY least, those who are in control here should try to eliminate any possibility of other site members from experiencing the loss of funds, and aggravation of waiting for a part to finish a project, and not having the funds to purchase elsewhere.

Maybe a word from him in his defense here would be enough to quell any doubts,.... but he just is not communicating with anyone as far as I can tell. I have a VERY nice looking finished 36 watt beauty, made by Nik at C-tone, and I am very sad that I can't finish it without those trannies.

And even more deeply disturbed by someone who poses as a supplier, and decides that it's OK to take money and not provide the goods,????????

To me, that's just plain stealing....... I know, I know,.... we all have problems,.... that's life,... nobody gets outta here without somewhat of a coaster ride,....and then it's over,... but all that stuff in between, all the sharing with each other stuff,...the ' helping hand stuff,... the family things, the friend stuff,.... it's all supposed to be smooth,....

yeah, right,..... an all of us should have a roof, and food, and ........

end up as happy campers before we leave......


Reality is totally not a sharing thing,... and to me, and a whole lot of others,... it is a major disappointment to realize there is the dark side..... and it really does take it's toll.....

and now, my rant is done, and I feel MUCH better,........

that you are angry, I can fully understand, but I haven´t choosen my daughter´s brain tumor, called Glioblastom, which has a survial time of 2% over five years, on the other hand, 98% dies in this five years. Should I be cruzified for visiting my daughter in hospital or for spending my time mostely with my daughter on her last way?

So it is true. My sincere condolences.

If my daughter were on her death bed, I would assuredly do what minimum I must to keep the day job going, let the rest of the world go to he ll in a hand-basket, and spend all the time I could with her.

Ingo historically has had some delivery problems, so it's easy to pile on the complaints, but it this case I think he's justified. I might try to find the time to at least return the money of those with outstanding orders -- but that's easy to say from where I'm sitting...

Sorry for the rant Ingo, I do however feel it is somewhat justified,..... you could , at least send a few Emails to the folks who have fully paid you, and are expecting your work , I have but one Email from you saying there was a mixup, and that you will be shipping in about 10 days.....

that was back in June I think...

I am very sorry about your daughter, we all share your pain in that area I'm sure,.... family is a very important aspect of most of our lives,...

I did have a pending amp building business started, and was optomistic but since my partner has just died of cancer, related to liver failure, at the age of 51, I do know about loss,...... Andy will be missed by all of us in my neighborhood.

Life is far too short, and most of us do not really get to enjoy it to it's fullest,... some, have a whole life of 'bad luck', or bad things happening to them one after the other,......some never really experience profound loss, and have not ever had to deal with extreme things,

Most involved with music, one way or another,. that includes you, have a creative way to release emotional bursts with music...... I have been playing since 1965 and am very grateful for the ability to play as I do,....

My years are dwindling and with this in mind,... before I lose more of my friends, or go on to the next thing myself, it would be nice to complete the last project Andy and I dreamed about, before he passed in August.
I would absolutely like to give him a tribute of a final completed 36 watt sound,... I already have a Cab in mind with a Tone Tubby 10", and a Celestion Vintage 30, 12 " and plenty of NOS tubes ready and waiting for finding the exact tone.......

no problem at all !!!!! The thing is, that nearly three days a week I have some talkings with all the doctors and even this take "only" two or three hours, you are feeling completely empty afterwards, it´s just like you have worked for 18 hours a day, not thinking to the nightmares, when you would try to sleep. I´m really understanding you but believe me, a partner is going from your side, a child from your heart.
There are no doubts, you will get your transformers of course and all the other ones too.

That will help give you peace of mind and reduce your stress level a little.

Apart from that, I'm really concerned about your daughter's situation. I'm praying she will be one of the 2% - and why not? Just remember that the doctors don't know everything. They can tell you what's wrong now, but not what is going to happen in the future. They can only make intelligent guesses about that. I have a friend that had a fast-spreading lung cancer, and was given 3 months to live. That was over five years ago, because he got better instead. There is hope.

I was talking about the few people here on 18watt.com that have been waiting a long time, maybe nearly a year. If you are able to still make any transformers it would be very good to send them their orders as a very high priority, before you do others.

I have some experience with cancer, and having a young son I fully feel with you. I would be more dead than alive in your situation.
You are probably being swamped all this time with medical advice, but if you think I could be of any help, just e-mail me. (It's in my contact profile)

Cancer is a lot more than what the specialist you are just consulting thinks of it. I am personally convinced, the only chance for survival is a thorough and general change in things. And a combination of the most efficient and least invasive therapies for the special situation. We have some of the most advanced cancer work on earth done here in Germany, but it hasn't reached the regular Hospitals much yet.
In our special case, we achieved a complete cure that is still seen as a wonder by many (almost all!) doctors, and the method(s) were far from even the 3rd standard technique, and had to be mostly paid in cash by us although it was a lot cheaper than the operations would have been. I am ashamed, after all I know now, that cancer is not treated more efficiently in our time.

If you feel like contacting me, go ahead. Don't worry about bothering me, I wouldn't write this, if I wasn't serious.
If you don't, there is absolutely no need to. I am not making any money here, and getting into your case would mean a whole bunch of extra work for me. But I know what you are going through, and I am VERY VERY thankful for the gracious help I have received. Especially by cancer specialists all over Europe, mostly in their 'spare' time. It meant all the difference in the world. I'll give some back any time it is asked for, and if I can handle it.


One word to the others in your favor:

I now would simply expect people to show tolerance with someone who has been honest in his dealings in the past, and is facing one of the worst things in life: Fighting for the life of his child.

When I was involved with cancer in my family, I did little more than care for that issue. And it was absolutely worth it.

Further:
It sounds as if Ingo has a lot of backorder, so suing him won't get you anywhere either. You'll cost everyone involved exponentially more time and money and grief. So please be reasonable. **** happens, it happened. You hit the bad luck streak (a little less than Ingo though). And now you can be mad about it or whatever. It is up to Ingo, and he has more important things to do now. You wouldn't do anything else than him in that situation. At least if you are still anywhere near a right mind.

That all said, I don't know Ingo, never heard from him until now. But in a few years, if things have resolved in whatever way, and he still winds wire on bobbins, I'd like to try one of those OT's.


All the best wishes to your daughter and your family Ingo! Don't trust ANY one opinion on your daughters illness, and try to learn about it as much as you can. Be watchful. Cancer, sad as that is, is one of the largest growing business fields in our hemisphere. They are all making their money with it.

Don't feel like you are being crucified - we are not in your shoes and don't know the situation. I have to tell you that you have to have balls the size of watermelons to come here and face a group of frustrated customers...thank you for that.

I can't say that I know what you're going through but I would imagine that this is a highly emotional and trying situation and I would do exactly what you are doing - focus on the family.
