I have created a friggen monster

I had previously modded my 36w build by removing the Normal channel and then cascading it's unused triode into the TMB channel.

It had relatively small cathode bypass caps and a small plate/coupling cap on that far end. It was essentially an AX84 Hi-Octane in it's use of an additional Gain control and dual cathode bypass caps (albeit different values).

Well, it was a little too harsh, thin, and bright (although not "fuzzy" and tinny - just a little grating). I can never leave well enough alone and so I went about wanting to add the FAT, clear, wide-range "boom" of an early JCM800 I had (but let go, like an idiot)... I will miss that amp until the day I die... or will I?

I bumped the coupling cap up to .022uF like "normal" and then bumped the cathode bypass up a more than healthy amount - 10uF and 4.7uF. Kept the Gain2 control and gutted the old Normal channel's Tone control.

I was just experimenting...

The amp was not really woofy at all. No farting, no flubbing, and no Nu-Metal bottom end "resonance." In fact, I soon realized I didn't have to experiment any further. This thing INSTANTLY gave me goosebumps. It was like smelling an old girlfriend's perfume again... my 36w is the reincarnated spirit of my long lost JCM800.

I decided to dime both Gains, just to see what was on tap. No fizzy, boomy, anything. It was completely usuable mojo-vibe tone without anything negative - even though I only rarely use that much gain (some metal/industrial stuff on occassion). I generally run G1 very low (1-3) and can still get a very clean (ACDC "Back in Black" style Marshall clean), vintage, classic rock vibe.

The thing was on 2 - in an open 1x12" Eminence Tonkerlite cab - and my windows were rattling. My neighbors began shouting when I finally heard them after "Whole Lotta Love" so I just went into an outro of the Star Spangled Banner ala Jimi with some feedback that might have exploded neighborhood dog's heads.

The one that got away is back - in my 36w. It is spooky.

My '57 reissue Les Paul Custom and my Les Paul Junior Lite with a P-90 in the bridge and soon to be a Gibson minihumbucker in the neck...

Yep a "strange" Junior with TWO pickup slots.

My Telecasters are saved for my other builds (tweeds and a 6L6 modded BF Princeton Reverb head clone).

It would be awesome if you could edit a schematic to create one of what you now have ! I just typed my first post asking for what you described...JCM 800. Tho i didn't specify further, i guess i should have.....master volume circuit. I'll have to go edit my post. But yeah, if you could do that i bet many would love that schematic. I sure would !
