shielded wire

im having a hard time figuring out the shielded wire. its pretty easy on the ends fixed to the pots but the ends the connect to the preamps im confused do both center and shield solder together on the tube socket?

No just the shield gets snipped and shrink tubed.

Snip clean on one end and heatshrink it. On the other end, ground the shield to any old chassis screw and not to the ground buss. This is not a circuit ground, it is a shield and performs the same function as the chassis itself (RF shield).

If you have cliff style jack(isolated from chasis) you can connect shield at both ends.

If you use normal metal jacks connect shield only on the one end.

I got the feeling he's talking about from the input jack to the tube socket. I'm no engineer, but I was taught to ground one end or the other, doesn't matter which, but not both. Honestly, I don't know if it works when you ground both or what. I'd go with the conventional wisdom.
