My 18 watter in progress... (amp porn!)

Post by fpena »

Hi everybody,

I am working on my 18 watt amp very slowly, but here's some pictures of the progress.

Comments?

This is my first experience with turret boards, I have very mixed feelings about them.

:D

Very nice project (and site). I think you could've made the board a litle wider, though -looks like the chassis is large enough, and those components at the power resistor end look a bit crowded :? .

FWIW, I usually space my turrets at 3/8" (~ 10mm -- same as the old Hiwatt turret boards). This wastes a little space, but allows for larger components without crowding.

Thanks for your comments!

I had a bit of a hard time when it came to solder the large resistors, I made the board before I bought them, and under estimated the size of those bricks. I'm satisfied with the "3d" layout solution for that part of the board, it is really sturdy. Of course, in my next build I will provide enough room for all the parts!

I am using 0.3" spacing (on center)... Having made so many stompbox PCBs, I was set on decimal fractions of an inch

I've added 3 more pictures, check them out here:

And I've fired it up! it works and the voltages are dead on with the ones in the schematic. I haven't yet done the preamp board and the 18watter is already a success!!
