Perfect specs for 36W PT/OT?

Post by Cknopp »

I have the preferred specs for the 18watt, but I am looking for the specs needed for a 36W unit. I am looking to get a layout of the mains, secondary, filament, OHMs and so on for the PT and OT transformers

As always, I greatly appreciate any education that is intelligently offered!

THANKS!

No one can tell me what voltages and stuff are "perfect" for a 36watt power tranny, or what is needed for a 36watt output tranny?

Do I simply double the values for the 18 watt items?

Thanks!

Thanks!

Graydon currently has a 10% sale on his transformers. Not to mention his stuff absolutely ROCKS.

I don't doubt it, but I am about to place an order for the 18 watt toroid transformer sets, and I can add the 36 watt trannies and get free shipping.

Can anyone direct me to the information?

I found this for the PT:
290-0-290@200mA
6.3v@6A
5v@3A

Is this what is best for the 36watt PT?

Still looking for the specs on the OT, so any help is appreciated!

Primary impedance: 4Kohm
Secondary: 4-8-16 ohm (or 8-16 ohm or only 8 ohm... optional.. )
Power: 30+W

Thanks!

To be honest, I actually figured that out earlier today...

Once I realized that the only real difference on the output over the 18watt is that it has the tubes in paralell, thus halving the Ohms, I realized that the 8kOhm 18watt tranny had to be dropped to 4kOhm.

I do appreciate your response as well!

Thank you!

Maybe I am being unclear here?

I have no interest in purchasing these transformers to build my own amps. I just am interested in what changes need to be made in comparison to an 18watt transformer.

I am placing the order for the 18 watt transformers soon, so I want to add some 36 watt PT/OT as well to combine the shipping.

I appreciate Graydon's transformers for what they are, but mine are toroid, so not even close to the same thing, other than output.

If the 18 watt is:
290-0-290 @ 300mA
3.15-0-3.15 @ 2A
0-5-6.3 @ 3A

What has to change for a 36 watt version?

Thanks!

Since your toroid already delivers up to 300mA, you are already covered. IIRC, a standard 18Watt is 100-120mA, and most 36Watt PTs are only about 200mA.

Would not that 3.15-0-3.15@2A heater winding be too small even for an 18watt 8O

Preamp 3 12ax7 @0.3A (0.3*3) 0.9A
Poweramp 2 EL84 @0.75A (0.75*2) 1.5A

So an 18watt would need about 2.5A
And a 36watt an additional 1.5A for a total of 4A

Otherwise the transformer would do well for both.

This is from the top of my head so please correct me if I am wrong.

I may have reversed the 3.15 and the 0-5-6.3 amperages...

I sent the toroids that I purchased to builders on this forum already for testing, so I don't recall the exact specs, and the .pdf file from the manufacturer that I purchased from got lost during my "upgrade" to Windows7...
