Re: Thoughts on a 5E3 Hybrid
The tonestack from a 5E3 has been built plenty of times with 18 watters, usually around the Lite 2b circuit...
No file attached though, so I'm not sure what you're looking at specifically.

Re: Thoughts on a 5E3 Hybrid
You can build a Fullerwell and just wire V2 as a LTP instead of cathodyne. But why?

Weird, we're able to attach PDFs. Try placing it inline (or not if you already were). Also check the file size.
That seemed obvious to me.

Sorry, my OCD compelled me to mention that cap value! Interestingly, it is shown as 680p on the schematic too, so may just be TubeTown's mod. Sorry for the topic derail.

i found this schematic with half 5e3 input into a LTP 6V6 power amp but not sure if this is what you mean.

No luck.. It try's to load but then I get the yellow triangle error saying 'invalid filename'.. obviously this is on my end.JMPGuitars wrote: ↑Mon 11/18/19 8:03 pmWeird, we're able to attach PDFs. Try placing it inline (or not if you already were). Also check the file size.

This is my scenario and my basic question:
I have a 5E3 Deluxe chassis, cab, speaker, and transformer set.
I want to match up a 4 input V1 pre-amp from the 5E3 to a LTP of a 'Marshall type' PI. I would like to retain the separate volume controls of the 2 channels with the single tone knob (Keeping the stock look of the chassis.)
My idea was to build a 'sleeper'...
Something that 'looks' like a tweed deluxe but with a bunch more snarl.
I've done the Robinette mods, the Caldwell mods, and a bunch more mods but haven't been able to get that snort out of it yet.
Modifying the chassis is a no go as I have not yet been able to find one that the nickel wont peel off if I drill a hole in it.
I super appreciate all your help guys.. maybe there is a reason I haven't found what I'm looking for.
Cheers

Oh, that's easy then. Rename the file with nothing weird in it. Name it something like 5e3-schematic.pdf.Ampman5150 wrote: ↑Wed 11/20/19 6:58 amNo luck.. It try's to load but then I get the yellow triangle error saying 'invalid filename'.. obviously this is on my end.

I would keep it simple and build a Lite 2b. You can use the 5E3 tonestack if you want. You could do something fun with the inputs. High/low for both inputs, and maybe one side is single triode, other side is parallel triode. Here's a nice explanation: viewtopic.php?p=234730#p234730

Re: Thoughts on a 5E3 Hybrid
You could also do the full blown 4 input version of the 5E3 pre section.geoff 1965 wrote: ↑Tue 11/19/19 6:41 pmi found this schematic with half 5e3 input into a LTP 6V6 power amp. .

Re: Thoughts on a 5E3 Hybrid
that is basically what Josh suggested, you're problem here is if you want the 4 inputs and the 18W LTP you will have to sacrifice the second stage of the preamp without modifying the chassis for the extra tube.

I like this project. It's very similar to my thinking when I developed the Fullerwell, which has 18W snarl. The main differences I see are:
1) you want the LTP whereas the Fullerwell uses cathodyne
2) you're using the 5E3 trannies whereas the Fullerwell uses 18W Heyboers
3) you're (presumably) using 6V6s whereas the Fullerwell uses EL84s
4) you're (presumably) using a 5Y3 whereas the Fullerwell used an EZ81
Only thinking about this briefly, You could get more snarl by reconsidering your choices in #1 and #2 above. Viz #1, going to cathodyne will give you an extra gain stage due to the extra triode available in the PI tube and this will add snarl, especially if you're using a 12AX7 for the PI tube. Viz. #2, you want the right iron if you're looking for a marshall sound vs the fender sound. You can go either way with #3 or #4 and if you stick with the 5Y3 you'll get a bit more sag than the EZ81 provides. You can mod #3 to use noval sockets for EL84s without altering the chassis by using chassis adapter plates Mojo & others sell.
...Oh, and use a 12AX7 in the first preamp tube rather than the 12AY7. That will add snarl.
