Mastervolume

Post by Lieuwe »

Hello . I am new on this site . I built an 18 w amp ( Ceriatone ) and it sound great. I would to know if I change something with my mastervolume. With my normal volume on 8/10 and mastervolume on 2 it great but very hard . Is there a way make it less hard ?

Hi, welcome to the site.

Are you saying there's too much gain at 8? Lower the "normal volume" to around 3 and raise the master volume to get the volume you want. Play around and see what gets the sound you're after.

If adjusting the volumes doesn't get what you want, then you should post your voltages here.

Thanks,
Josh

Josh I think he's talking about the standard 18W TMB. It does indeed only do high volume overdrive. Isn't the voltage devider mod that I have with the pot to ground on V2 pin7 on my TMB tremolo going to give hom what he's after? Mine drives on very low vol... but if I turn down the pot it cleans up nicely. I think the 500k pot with the 10k resistor in series is better than a 250k with a 220k resistor. The 220k as moest value still drives pretty hard. It seems that between 60 and 120k there is the only usable clean on the dial. Works great!

Hello again . The problem is when I put my normal volume between 8/10 the amp sounds at yt best , but then yt gets hard te do anything with the
mastervolume. The range is between 2 and 2,5 and not between 0 to 10 . When mastervolume is a little under the 2 I hardly anything and a little over the 2 ....WHAMM.... Sorry, but my English isn’t verry well .

You have to be aware of 2 things when building an 18W TMB:
1. The MV is no MV. It's a drive control.
2. There is NO low volume on this amp. Low volume is somewhere between 1 and 1.5 on the dial, and that's a very thin sound with absolutely no drive. Once it starts driving it is already very loud.

I recently build the Jmp design TMB tremolo. Well, that thing does have low volume drive. In fact, it drives immediatly. No clean at all. I've modded that with a 250k pot and a 10k resistor in series. This Works like a charm. I do have decent overdrive on very low volume. And as an extra I have tremolo , but no normal channel. Don't use that anyway

Look: the white knobs are controlling the tremolo.
