Re: new build 36lite with vvr
Great im on the right track.
Unfortunately I tried clipping the middle pin of the preamp sockets. It all looked a bit ugly so I thought I'll do a PROPER JOB. Drilled the back of the centre pin out, pushed the whole piece out, perfect. Socket fell apart in my hand. As probably everyone else knows the centre pin holds the thing together...
Then thought id add two to my tube town order which ive been waiting a week to be shipped. Check my email and it dispatched this morning...Looks like I'll be spending another 20e postage for 4e of sockets... so much for my no spend project...

I like Belton Micalex sockets. Great, reliable, no middle pin to crumble or ruin things...

Soldered a few bits onto the power tubes. Removed heater wires as they all looked turdy. The wire I have for everything else is 22awg and I probably have enough to do the heaters in that. What do you think?

Great thanks. If I go for new heater wire from tube town what's the best option? 20awg? Solid or stranded? Cloth covered?

Re: new build 36lite with vvr
I use 20AWG PTFE wire. 22AWG is sufficient enough for Marshall to use it in their amps tho.
Don't use cloth covered wire in your amps unless you're looking for the wrong kind of .
Thanks,
Josh

Tube-Town sells 0.7mm silicon wires. I always use those.

Re: new build 36lite with vvr
Great, thanks guys. Gonna order vvr kit from tubetown and sockets and probably heater wire. Anything else I might need after ive broken something? Any Zeners to fix high voltage? I should have everything for 36w lite then, plus parts for effects loop, vvr and type 2 MV.
I've no funds left for reverb parts at this point but i listened to your recordings on the tele forum bieworm and i really liked it. Any links to docs etc would be v appreciated.

Lol.. the chassis is an industrial guiding rail for electrical wires that was left over from one of my construction sites. The power transformer is a 2A 12VAC-240VAC that costed 10€ or so..turretboard leftovers...

Re: new build 36lite with vvr
So ive soldered TWO components onto my turrets. Watched the videos. Everything seems much smaller and fiddlier in real life...
Question time as usual. For the connector runs (is it a 'ground bus' ?) When do use bare wire and where normal sheathed wire.
Secondly, you see the unsoldered bare wire, should be connecting 6 turrets. Do you use one piece and take a turn round each as you go or cut separate pieces to go between every turret to be connected?
Thanks in advance for your, as yet, untiring help and advice...

Close up of first turret. Err, and another q. So that turret has c2 and r5 connected already but needs leads to v1 pins 3 and 8. Do you get all four bits physically connected and then solder in one?

Re: new build 36lite with vvr
Soldered the two wires on. Looking at the layout I adapted I noticed it never has four connections to one turret, max three. It looks not great as you can see. Guess I'll be un soldering and adding an extra turret. Luckily there's room.

Re: new build 36lite with vvr
You have excessive solder on there, careful not to do that.
Your main ground bus wires at the top of the board don't need tubing on them. If you have any wires going through other parts of the board, then insulate those.
There are lots of photos here for reference in other threads and the galleries to give some insight. Here's one of my builds:
Thanks,
Josh
