Aluminum Chassis -- Interest?

Post by crgfrench »

I have designed an aluminum chassis and am interested in gauging interest of others to increase the number I order from the fabrication shop, to attain better per-unit pricing from the volume discount.

This chassis is appropriate for 18W, 36W, and Vox AC30 style builds including the Matchless DC30. I build my Fullerwell 36 amps using it. This chassis fits perfectly in the standard Weber 6M18/36 1x12 combo cabinet or the Mojotone British 18 Watt style 1x12 combo cabinet, when mounted to the upper rear panel vertically, the way Matchless mounts their combo amp chassis (with the tubes pointing forward, horizontally). It would also work well in a head shell. I've been building these in the Weber 1x12 combo cabinets so far.

If anyone's interested in hopping on the order with me, please comment below with how many you might like. Let's see how many total we may want and we can all benefit from volume pricing.

The corners are not welded for the prices I'm looking at right now, which would be less than $99 per chassis if we order 10 total. Obviously, it gets cheaper per unit from there as we order more. I could weld the corners myself since I'm a TIG welder and have access to a shop, but the edges don't necessarily need structural welding. Welding would add to the final price. It's only the chassis, no faceplates or any other hardware.

I'd appreciate comments, suggestions, and any indications of interest you have.

Here's a pic of what it will look like built as a 36W TMB, with a GZ34, four EL84s and 3 CV4004s. This was a prototype with welded corners.

It looks nice. Does it fit the stand Marshall 18W faceplates?

People may be interested, but it will likely be slow to get even 10 people interested. I have a lot of custom chassis sitting around. 😉 ...of course, mine don't fit the standard faceplate, so it's more niche than if yours does.

Thanks Josh; this does not match standard 18W faceplates due mainly to the 5 pots in the TMB channel, the larger indicator lamp, and a different rear panel layout. Custom plates would be required.
