Goliath amp build

Post by Bieworm »

Hey guys

I've just finished a new build last week. Still busy on the combo cab, but it will look like an old Gretsch amp form the 60's. 2x10 speaker config.
What's the Goliath? Well, it's a 35 watt Vibro King. It has the stand alone reverb unit built in, just like the VK, and it sounds awesome!

Somebody is learning the fine art of the Stupid MV. 🤣

The thing to keep in mind is that the SSMV will reduce power tube distortion after a point. In one of my EF86 variants, I used it to bring the power tubes from Marshall to Vox tones, and then quiet it down more beyond that. If you have good overdrive coming from the preamp, it won't bother you much when you lose more of the power amp distortion.

BTW- if you put just the link without the extra stuff like "?si=BquyDI6o05NEuUEG" at the end, it will show the video here.

Indeed.. this video has very little to do with power tube overdrive. But 6L6 don’t quite get nice OD anyways. 😎
I’m very surprised though that this preamp yields this cool overdrive. I have to redo the recording without NFB! Dang, stupid I didn’t think about that earlier 🤘
