Newbie Confusion
Hi Everyone,
I'm totally new here and this is my first post. I've put together a lot of amps over the years, but I'm about to embark on my first 18W Marshall (non-TMB). I'm having a tough time figuring out which schematic and layout to use. I went into the downloads section and am amazed at the variety of schematics and layouts, but need to pick one. Is there one that's generally considered a favorite?
Fwiw, "Ian's Original 18 Watt Layout" is really clean with a nice BOM:
storage/18Watt_Layout_Original.pdf
I'm pretty sure this has already been discussed a lot in the past, but I had some trouble figuring it out with the search function.
Thanks!

Re: Newbie Confusion
Welcome.
The layout you highlight and its schematic are for the "original" 18 watt, i.e. a close representation of the 18 watt amps built by Marshall in the sixties. There were minor differences in the early built ones due to material supply issues. But I think it is ok to say that it is as near original as you can get.
My own is built from those diagrams with added variable power supply to the power stage. I can vouch for the workability of it as it has had 14 years of almost daily use.
There are other versions with a variety of differences. So it depends what you want from the amp. Most circuits have been built and used by someone on the forum. So if you ask about any circuit in the Downloads section feedback is available I am sure.

Re: Newbie Confusion
Thanks, I appreciate the response. I've compared the various layouts with some chassis pics and think I'm good. Cheers.
