Beware of Ampwares

Post by Sean »

Hey Guys, if you are considering ordering parts from Ampwares (ampwares.com) you may want to look elseware (pardon the pun). I placed a $200.00 order a month ago and still no stuff. The guy does not answer his phone, does not return e-mail. Nothing. I am beginning to think this guy is a scheister. Has anyone had a similar experience with him?

I ordered a couple of different things from them. Switches and something else small like that I can't remember. The part I can't remember arrived soon after ordering, the switches however took 2 months. 8O
I think it's just a matter of what the dude has in stock. He didn't answer my emails either.

Ampwares

I've done business in both directions with Mark, purchase from and sold to. He has always been a straight shooter with me. Just keep in mind he is a one man show like a lot of us and we are all slow at times. Could be age, kids, weather, lack of sleep or just trying to keep on top of two jobs. (guess which one I like   )

Anyway. He will come through for you.

If you check Ampage, you'll find at least one thread of many people slamming this guy. I'm satisfied that he's totally incompetant at best. If you can't ship product and respond to customers in a timely manner, then you don't belong in business - no excuses. Once you take people's money, you have responsibilities that can't be blown off.

Just my opinion

I'm experiencing the same problem. In fact I emailed him this morning before noticing this thread on ampwares. He has a great web site/parts selection but his method of doing business is sub-par at best. On the other hand, Graydon's response time is excellent! I ordered a PT and choke from him. He uses a packing service that totally screwed up and I had to return the product as being damaged. He was prompt, no hassles at all and recieved second set packed much better- he even offered to refund the shipping costs of parts returned. Class act. All this was done after placing an order (close to 200.00) with ampwares and still no delivery.

Sean,

Does he know that you're an attorney? 8O

He may still come through but I'm sure he lost some business (yours and some others around here).

I've also sent post office.. I sent an 18 to LA CAL. from Ky.. it arrived in fine shape. I've recenly got a few e-bay amps for repairs that were damaged by UPS.. Its cheaper through the post office. I also sent some parts to Liam in the UK for his 18..which got there on time.
I haven't delt with Ampwares, and sometimes i do know companies take there vacations in the summer..they may be out for Vacation..
Really don't know..

After one whole month I got a package from Mark, half of the stuff I ordered was not shipped and no explanation as to when they would arrive. The gold piping I ordered was mocha brown and looked nothing like the Marshall stuff. Honestly it looks like brown wire with the copper removed. The invoice listed the missing items as "shipped" so that he can possibly ditch liability in case of a challenge. Still no response to e-mail, the tele # on his websight is a cell number that he does not answer (but it is busy half the time).

My rant about the postal service was perhaps misinterpreted. I just don't see many businesses using the postal service to ship their goods. I have had had two separate claims for lost shipments in the last year from the postal service including a cabinet that I made for Jan, one of our members in the Netherlands that has disappeared (thank god it was insured). My guess is that people use it because it is cheaper than the competition. Trying to save money using the service has cost me dearly.

Last, I apologize for creating a negative post to vent anger on a personal matter but I really meant it as a warning and a cue for others to express their experiences with this company. From my dealings with Mark I can only conclude that he dishonest and not up front about his shortcomings in his inventory. His actions only tell me that getting my money for an order was more important than the ability to deliver the product. All he had to do from the beginning was tell me what he did not have in stock.

Yeah that sucks, your just posting your opinions or giveing a heads up to others. Nothing wrong with that. If your looking for real marshall stuff... usually you have to buy it from Parts is Parts.. either that or someone that stocks the Real marshall stuff. Clay Hullet in nashville usually always sent me the correct stuff. I just recently did a cab, and i ordered the piping from MoJo {which i should know better} and it was a thin serrated staple edge stuff.. Not like the Marshall at all. Some like it.. but i didn't. But they were super fast in shipping.

And i don't know if many have been looking at Parts is parts, but they have the Marshall silver and gold Block logos,Vox Ac30 faceplates and quite a few newer items. Hey i don't work for them,or get any cut..lol Just passing on what i've seen. Although some of it is expensive. Marshall stuff always has been. most of the time, when you see it say..looks like or similar to.. It ain't..lol But alot of there stuff is priced ok.. or about what others sell it for.

My 2p's worth: It seems to me that the Net makes it very easy for a well-meaning individual specialist to get inundated with enquiries that just don't end up paying the bills. I don't mean from Sean, but from the tyre kickers who want to ask lots of questions instead of doing their own background research, but have low likelihood of buying.

I've known a couple of suppliers who have been real helpful and friendly to me pre-sale then go AWOL once I put in an order. No-one here, I hasten to add! :)

Yeah, I tried ampwares once and had the same experience.... Now, I pretty much only use Hoffman and Mouser.......... Hoffman has been invariably reliable...

Hi Guys,

Thanks to the maturity of the guys on this forum, this thread has remained fairly calm and cool. Also, I recognize Sean's need to vent as dealing with an unresponsive supplier can be vey frustrating. However, I think that it would be prudent to lock up this thread now. I have dealt with suppliers who were always reasonable but on one occasion had some trouble delivering. I figure all companies run into trouble somewhere along the line. I try to cut them some slack and I hope that they will do the same for me some day when I need it.

If you have a particularly important comment to make regarding this thread, please email Gabi or myself privately.

Thanks,
