phase inverter

Post by RussianBear »

Which 12ax7 is the phase inverter on the 18 watt? (V1, V2, or V3?)

V1 = normal channel
V2 = phase invertor
V3 = tremolo channel
V4/5 = power tubes
V6 = rectifier

I don't know how much it would affect tone, but some of the clones out there switch around V2 and V3 putting the phase invertor in V3. This is more "normal" compared to modern amps, but this is not how Marshall built their 18Watter.

Thanks Graydon. I just bought some new JJ tubes for your kit amp I built so that I had some extras if needed. Bob from Eurotubes balanced one of the ECC83 S's to use as the phase inverter. I'm having a blast with this amp! Keep up the good work.... :mrgreen:
