18 watter up and running!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just finished the GDS kit last night. it has some bugs in it still, and the usuall trem problems and some wierd noises when the normal channel is turned all the way down......But that is to be expected. I never had an amp perfect the first time out.
I must however say this this amp sounds great!!! and unbelieveably loud!
almost too loud! I was suprised. thanks Graydon.

Well no its not supposed to. lead dress has to be good in these amps.
And this normal channel control squeal problem is popping up alot. It would be great to see what is causeing that. It reminds me of the later fender amps, where they used a small cap to curb oscilations, instead of fixing what was causeing them.
Hopefully i'm going to finish up a head today, or at least get it fired up.
I may have a couple small things like the trem switch, and indicator to put in. I'll have to see if it has any problems.

Roman,
Congratulations, it's great to get to hear an amp that you built for the first time, isn't it? I just recently finished my 18 watt (well finished it enough to listen too, still have a ways to go before it's really *done*), and it had a few issues as well, but overall it sounded great right away. I know what you mean about loud though, louder than I was expecting. But once you get the volume knob up to about 5 with a set of humbuckers... classic rock heaven.

My view is that the Normal channel tone control is a flawed design, and prone to instablity. I suspect if we used the Trem channel tone control on both channels, the problem would vanish. OK, the amp wouldn't quite be a 100% perfect clone, but it would sound a lot better without the oscillations....Plexi wrote: And this normal channel control squeal problem is popping up alot.
