Is there a schematic for the 36 watter out there?

Have been working on a 36 watter was hoping that where was a schematic that has been worked up from the layout. If not I suppose I could get my lazy a$% on it and make one up!

It's basically the same as the 18 watt, save for the respective changes (transformers, rectifier, extra pair of output tubes, etc.). You can extrapolate the rest from there.

Sorry to be contrary twangbanger, but why does it have to be a TMB?

It can be anything you want it to be, trem, TMB, VTB, Lite, etc. It's basically larger iron, and a paralleled pair of EL84s. Hell, you can even use 6V6s if you like.

It would'nt have to be but I already built the 18 watt clone with trem and also the layout provided was TMB .I love the way the 18 watter sounds just went for something different. By the time I posted this Question I already had 90% of the build complete off the layout but thought troubleshooting would be easier off a schematic!

AHHHH! I see now. I agree that having a schematic is nice.

Good luck on completing your build and post some clips when done!

I am just starting a conversion project. Taking an early '50s audio amp and converting into an 18watt. It shouldn't be much of a stretch since it is a 2 x EL84, EZ81, and 2 x ECC83 amp to begin with. I'm thinking that a Lite II would work well in this chassis.

Thats very true. You can make a 36 into whatever you like.

Already fierd up and sounding great. Did tweak the cathode cap on the tmb first stage from 50uf to 1uf and it seems to tame down the bass some as it seemed to boomy for my taste.I'm also thinking of doing the 5e3 mod to the normal channel.

I ended up changing both v1 cathode caps to 1uf to tame the bass down and removed the choke as stated in another thread! Also changed the bass pot to 250k. Noticed that both channels are run through the tmb tone stack thinking about taking the normal channel to the PI with a 470k resistor so as to bypass the tmb in the normal channel.

Hi All, just starting my 36W build. I bought a chassis from Nik and trannys from graydon. I also got a turret board and face plates fron Nik. As I see it the only difference in the layout posted here in this thread and Nik's is the power connections are properly oriented with hot to fuse and shielded wire. I don't know why the one on this thread has different switches. The indicator can parallel the tranny without the extra poles on the switches... am I right?

Richie, if you can pipe in about the layout here I would appreciate it. I also don't see the need for all those outputs. I think a selector switch and two output jacks shared would be better especially with 36 watts! someone like me might want to plug in (2) 4x 12's or (2) 2X12's. Any comments? they would all be appreciated. One more thing... the 500ma fuse seems useless since the tranny is connected to ground on the very next wire (to the tranny lug).

I also caught the ground wire that parrelled the 500ma fuse it's keeps you on your toes running through the layout ! I'm constantly learning things on this site .I did my outputs the same as the layout except deleting the 4 ohm jack as I'd probably never use it. Using a selector and a switching jack however may save your output trannie someday thou! Different strokes for different folks. That is one of the cool things about this site you are encouraged to try different things and tailor things to your needs or taste.

All these are just my opinions,and you can build the amp the way you like.

I don't like switches for the outputs,thats why there are 3 jacks. And i use switchcraft for the output jacks,because they are a tighter fit than the marshall style jacks.
In repairing amps,alot of problems you see are with switches for the output. I like the OT wiring,solid to each jack. Most cabs have 2 jacks to hook more than one cab.

I made some corrections on the layout,and i'll post those. Its not redrawn,but just marks the changes. The jacks in the layout,are like they would be if the chassis was in its upright normal position..If your looking at this,from the inside the chassis,as you would be when working on the amp,this would be upside down. So the High input would be on the bottom,with the 1M resistor.

The chassis Nik sells is for the Heyboer standup set,and it all fits and measured for those.
Graydons is the laydown type PT,unless he is sellign a standup mount type now??
..so I don't think that will work,unless you cut a hole for the PT.

I usually don't use a MV,so i put in a tone bypass switch in the MV hole for the TMB channel,to lift that stack when using the normal channel.Thats a nice option..
The Trem tone/vol ,5E3 or another tone circuit i'm useing ,is very nice for the normal channel. I like it much better than the Normal channel layout that is posted.

Would you e-mail me your changes? I'd like to get this bad larry started this weekend...I think the tranny situation will kill that

Maybe I'll get lucky and graydon will get my e-mail and will have the stand ups!

Allynmey, here is the info you need on the trannies (I just copied and pasted from something I posted awhile back):

Power transformer : HTS-7042 bumped up to 290-0-290 stand up $80
Output transformer: HTS-7013-1 $75
Choke: HTS 7040 $28

Just email this to him, he'll know what to do (heyboertransform@novagate.net).

The set from Heyboer is very nice, and I can personally recommend it. Make SURE you ask him to ship everything at once, if not he'll ship them one at a time, which kills you with shipping costs (happened to me!) . Other than that its all very straight forward. He'll send an invoice with your shipment, then you have 30 days to send a payment.
