Bought my first tube tester today

There was a little writeup at Tone-Lizard regarding this model and it appeared to be a satifactory tester. I guess I'll find out! I sure hope it works, D'oh!

Feel free to chime in and tell me I got a great deal or just made a huge mistake. I can take it.

It's hard to go wrong for 100 bucks, but it may need a tune up and calbration.

I think the 666 can be calibrated with a voltmeter...
Instructions may be found on the Bama site...

I had my tester calibrated an overhauled (caps and resistors etc) by Chris Hayedt. He was great. Passed away few years ago. A Google search will net you some good candidates.

I returned quite a few tubes with weak emission or low transconductance.

I own a 666 myself. I think it is ok in its category and price range. You have to be careful with some errors in the charts though. Once you have read the instructions and understood the way it works, you can easily spot them.

That was my thinking. I actually had sold something on eBay that hadn't cost me anything and I had a credit of $27.50 in my paypal account so that brought the price down even more.

I plan on taking a look at the back of it and testing all the components etc

I have a 667 and I'll tell you firsthand, Do Not Trust The Roll Chart. I read a post by someone titled, "Eico 666, The Devil's Own Tube Tester".

Basically, the testers are fine, the Eico data is terrible. Go to the Bama website and download the Coletronics data and use it. I've compared a good many tubes to readings from my Jackson and they will yield comparable readings with the Coletronics data.
