well, I WAS jammin away and it went very well. Richie, you're such a chicken. you wouldnt let me just start switching wires around OR even check pin3??? I can understand the wireswitching but what,..could you SEE my shakes???lol
I'll check pin 3 (maybe not the one under the NFB switch though...ESPECIALLY today lol) and let you know.
Oh AND.....Turns out Richie's right AGAIN....the JJ EL84s ARE very good....even compared to NOS! Maybe he really DOES know a thing or two afterall. Took him a while to pass the hidden choke test but he did allright I guess. That was so funny when he said...I GOT IT!!! he explained it and I WISH I would have said...Richie, that's so crazy, it just might WORK!!! We had fun...well I did...ignorance is bliss. He says...I just cant figure out why there are so many wires comming off one side of that can cap. I go...well how about if I just try switching a couple. He pauses...uh yeah I dont think so! Then he goes...maybe just try clipping one of those yellow ones...I cant see where they go anyway. I'm like...YEAH BABY...THAT'S more like it!!!

Hey Richie, I just sent you and Nik the following email...just thought I'd post it here in case you're around and want to stop me before I do something stupid...AND just in case anyone else is wondering if it matters :

Hey Richie, sorry to bug ya. I removed the resistor and put the choke back and I got the goofy voltages again?! Does it matter which way the choke is hooked up? If it's reversed will it do that? I guess I might as well just try it and see since I have to remove it anyway the way it stands right now.

EDIT: I'm back..I just got to thinking...I read a few times that people have trouble using a choke so just use a resistor instead. What kind of "trouble"? this kind? or, just a hassle to mount??
It IS only 2 wires. Why do ANY amps use chokes if you can just use a resistor? Something smells funny lol.

For most of the 36 watters i have built..i've used both..and the resistor seems to be working out better for this amp. I had trouble with a choke on one amp..and it took a while to find what was causing it..So chokes do/can be bad or go bad.

Been looking over Niks hi/lo switch.. still seems to be off a bit in values..
Between the 2 settings..
Seems its 60ohm in one position and 135ohm in the other. like to see 68ohm at least.

yeah originally when we thought it was simply a bias problem he was throwing out some possible value changes. One suggestion was to raise the 150s which would only raise the 18Wmode and leave the 36 at 60Ohms. I prefered to switch the 120s to 150s bringing the 36W to 75 while also raising the 18W to 150 instead of 135 which I thought might be better. So you think what?... 130s instead of 120s?(what incriments do they come in?)...for 65 Ohm in 36W and 140 Ohm in 18W?
