Troubleshooting 36w

I've been playing my new 36w for a few days and its been great. But plugging in today, it periodicall cut out for a second, on both channels, and it only got worse from there. It would pop or click, and squeal quietly and increase, as it were crescendoing. Weird thing is, it happens are a pretty constant interval. Im guessing its a cold solder joint. I pushed around some wires in my amp to play with the lead dress and check for bad connections, and noticed that some of the wires going to the PI and in the power section make sounds if I tap on them. Is this normal or is that a bad solder joint? Still I don't think those wires are the problem.

I rechecked some of the solder joints, and everything seems to be working fine. I still have the problem. It sounds like a grounding problem, but I checked that it it seems ok. It works fine at low vol, but as soon as i turn it up and hit a note, mid note it starts humming and makes a squeal after 2 sec or so. Moving wires around still does nothing. I have to put it on standby and turn it back on to get sound again. Anyone have ideas?

Looking at it again today, when it pops and squeals intermittantly, the power tubes glow more with the sounds, but do not stay that way.

type the word "chopstick" into the search function of the forum here. You've got some kind of intermittent issue, still likely a cold joint or component.

I may be off here, however it'd probably be worth checking your preamp tubes .. just to be sure. Bad tubes can cause intermittent popping, clicking or cutoffs. Swap out one preamp tube (V1) and replace it with a know good tube. Repeat the process through the other preamp/PI tubes. I had a JJ 12ax7 go bad on me like this - didn't seem to be much of a problem when the volume was low, but was very noticeable when the amp was turned up.

I agree, i've had many 'New' tubes that were just unusable out of the box,they woked best in the garbage can than in an amp. Some can cause alot of hum to,so first find some good tubes. Rule that out first,of the amp having a tube problem.

Can you post a pic of the amp and wireing? It might help.
Lead dress,and things are important.

I know these amps can be built very quiet,and no problems. I have 2 here at the moment, one uses a choke,one doesn't. Both are quiet no noise no problems.

Along with possible bad preamp tube, Check your input grid connection at the base of v1. Use the chopstick to move the grid resitor around, and see if this causes occilations etc.
