Hi Boling here; A friend of mine suggested using new tung sol`s 6v6`s in my Tweed deluxe.Does anyone have any experience with these tubes?thanks borling

I don't have experience with them, but they are made by New Sensor in the Sovtek factory. If my recent experience with their Tunsol 12ax7 is any indication, then it's likely to be a good tube, but not exceptional. Certainly better than the Sovtek 6V6s, which are simply Ok in my opinion.

I'd say you are best off either finding some NOS 6V6s (RCAs or Sylvanias maybe) or using JJ 6V6s. JJ 6V6s are proven and reliable, and also sound very nice too.

well I like the 6V6EH personally but the JJs sound ok too. The EH's sound pretty much spot on exactly like my old RCA black-plate tubes always did, and last longer, taking a ton of abuse in my Princeton Reverb.

Just MHO, but I like the TS better than the EH. I like it equally as well as the JJ. I tend to lean toward the TS now because the JJ suffers from mechanical noise.

I have NOS RCA stuff in most of my 6V6 amps, but in the ones that are running new production, I have a pair of JJs in my custom Deluxe head and a pair of TS in my 5E3 combo.

Bit the bullet and got some RCA Blackplates off the sarge as well as some pre amps.

I`m sold ,nos is way better .Like turning on a light in a dark room

I used to use NOS RCA 6V6 and NOS RCA 12AX7 tubes in my 5F1 Tweed Champ.

It has the TS preamp tube in it now. Much better than the RCA, Sylvania or GE NOS tubes I've tried.

If I can, I buy TS for all my tube needs both preamp and power.
I didn't know TS had a 6V6 tube.....

I'll let everyone else buy the NOS tubes....some are outrageously expensive!

I've been getting so many NOS 6V6s these days I can't imagine buying new production, it seems every old lady I meet has a caddy in her basement and every caddy has NOS 6V6s in it!

Guess I'm gettin' old enough that the OLD ladies think I'm "cute"!

At this rate I'll have every NOS 6V6 in North America by Christmas!

Hi,

imho, the Bendex #5992 will kick the doggie squeeze out of any 6V6 out today. They are a Military tube made by by Bendex in Red Bank NJ, when the Air Force was building tube based electronics for bombers. They are super , super, rugged, they have a strong gain, and they sound great.

You can get these tubes from Jim Cross at Vacuum Tubes Inc. in Orlando, Fl, (they have a great web page).

I use them in my %13's and my Germeno 25 watt Masonette with great results, no failures @ gigs, etc. They also sound great in BF Fenders

No, I don't use Tele s, as they are too, too, bright souding for my ear. My favorite pre=amp tube are Amperex "bugle boy" 12AX7's. They do it for me over Mullards, Teles, etc.

I just did a comparison of 6V6s, with NOS Sylvanias, Tung-Sol, EH and Chinese versions. Of this lot the Tung-Sols were the winner and the Sylvanias the loser.

There is a problem with the Sovtek/EH/TS 6V6's in that the screen grid support rods are smaller than NOS and JJ ones, and the screen grids will fail or short under moderate to heavy use. This was pointed out along with pics by Tremo at the Amp Workshop page. Take a look-see.
