i have two sets of 6v6s.....one set of GE usa's with a 13 inside a yellow triangle and a set of usa sylvanias...anyone heard of these tubes??

Most of the made-in-U.S. NOS 6V6s are pretty good IME.

I agree that most NOS 6V6s are great, reliable tubes. I might also point out that the new JJ 6V6s is turning out to be pretty durn good as well. Real beefy, it can take a beating and survive, unlike some other current production 6V6s.

The new JJ 6V6 sounds good, at least in a Deluxe. However, they tend to rattle quite a bit in a combo.

I have also found the JJ6V6`s to sound great and hold up well. An amp builder friend of mine pointed out something interesting about NOS tubes. They have been weeded through several times with the best ones tested being used each time.The proccess repeats many times and the good ones are gone,the price does however still remain high.
as a result he finds NOS tube quality decling over the years. I preffer now to use new manufactured tubes, the tubes are getting better and they are more consistant.

I just sold 10 nos bendix tubes 5992/6v6gt 195.00 for 4, 285.00 for 6 legend goes that they were used in missles and extremely over built and lots of military money pumped into them for the design.

You can still get N.O.S. RCA black plates at reasonable prices and to me they are the benchmark of 6V6 sound. Extremely beefy! I did hear some good things about the new JJ 6V6's and just ordered a pair to try out.

For a BFDR, the RCA GTA's beat out the GTs IMHO. Much creamier, whilst still retaining that crunch. Certainly, with an old strat, the As give me just the right tone.

I've been using the new JJ 6v6's in my '58 Gibson GA-6, pushing them with a set of humbuckers, and they sound great. I've been abusing them for about a year by now, and they've proven to be quite durable.

A couple of weeks back I did an A/B test of a NOS Brimar 6V6 and a JJ in my P1 eXtreme. The Brimar was pretty darn good, but the JJ beat it.

Both had a rich, thick tone, but the JJ had much better articulation.

Just ordered a pair .
I'm replacing the El84s in this 18 watt with.
I've got 1650f instead of the heyboer
And all I can get out of the PT is 300v to the OT and
285 to the screens so that should be good for the 6v6 tubes maybe.
This is the first time I've used them.
It looks like they are a direct wire job as the EL34 except for the Bias.

The JJ 6V6 is a really good sounding tube, but they are prone to mechanical noise in combos. I use them in my Custom Deluxe head, which is like a hot-rodded Deluxe Reverb. In my 5E3, I use the Tung-Sol RI tubes, which take abuse as well as JJ, but have no noise problems. They sound great, but the downside is price. They are expensive. The EH 6V6 is a good sounding tube and is extremely reliable and durable, but its tone is just missing something to my ears. Kind of flat sounding with no distinguishing characteristics.

I'll be looking at the space I have and see if I can add a pair and leave the EL84s make them switchable
The 84s aren't quite there. I'm using a 2204 preamp.
I was was useing the same preamp with the 50watter and didn't like it and added the other half of the first 12ax7 back into the fold as the JMC 800 with the 10k compression circuit and that cooked. maybe I should try that first.

Yes, it's a combo, and so far I haven't come across any such problems with the JJ.

Substitute the 12AY7 in the first postion for a 12AX7. You go from a medium mu to a high mu tube. It screams.
