I was thinking about doing this:
Power amp section w/Silicon diode rectifiers
http://www.angela.com/catalog/how-to/Super.SE.6V6.html
And using a hammond 272FX 300-0-300 @150ma
That may be a little hot since I'll be using a matched pair of 6V6JJs
So I guess a 275-0-275 @150ma may do it.
Supposively the OT CT would be at 385v
since the preamp and all will be around 100ma
This 125ESE is rated at 80ma.so running the 6V6s
@45ma ea should be right maybe?
since hammonds are supposively rated conservatively?
Thanks
EDIT
I don't know, with voltage jacked up like that
I may need to bias them @35 or 40ma

There's no need at all for them to be matched if running parallel SE. Also remember to wire the power tubes' heaters in opposite phase, to help cancel out heater hum. The 125ESE should be fine with a pair of 6V6s - nothing bigger though.

Re: 6V6 thanks
I stripped it down to the bare minimum (no trem and no verb). I boosted the gain on the 2nd gain stage to about the max I could squeeze out of it. I also added a cut control to counteract the bright cap on the volume pot, which makes the amp much more pedal friendly. Then I added a passive FX loop to it. Finally, I jacked the filtering up to 32/32/20/20rockinlocken wrote:Just finished the Delux, now time to experiment. Thanks for all the tips folks. What kind of hodrod tricks you got S2?

I'm running about 450VDC B+, so things are pretty hot just like the original DR. So I have to be careful about what tubes I use and how I bias it. Right now it is biased to about 50% of max. I also bumped the screen resistors from 470R to 1K.69SG wrote:What kind of voltage are you guys running on the Anodes and Screens?
I know the data sheet says 315anode and 285 screen but I have seen voltages on various schematics that are all over the place.

Here is a question probably answer it's self.
Since the voltages in this EL 34 PP amp section are about
100v short of what they should be 362-P/352
I should be able to do a direct tube swap EL34/6V6 tubes
and the only thing I need to do is Make the cathode bias resistor
switchable from 125 to 250 ohm?

Almost. You would need to adjust your cathode resistors to get the correct bias for the tubes at that voltage. You would need to use a 10W cathode resistor for the EL34s and bump your screen resistors to 5W.

This has not been my experience and I've used JJs in a 5F6A Bassman (6L6s), A 5E3 Deluxe and a 5E1 Champ (6V6s)MooreCowbelle wrote:The new JJ 6V6 sounds good, at least in a Deluxe. However, they tend to rattle quite a bit in a combo.
For power tubes, I use JJ, period. I'll use a Mullart AT7 in V1 on the Bassman and the Deluxe, but other than that, I'm using long-plate JJ's for preamp tubes.
