ECC99?

Post by krash »

I was browsing JJ web site and found the specs for this tube, ECC99.

Looks like an ECC83/12AU7 on steriods.

Anyone have more info on this thing? Are there any other vendors making an equivalent tube? Or NOS?

Or is this like a 6SN7 in a 9-pin package? It's pretty close spec-wise.

I'm using an ECC99 with an adapter in my Gilmore Jr. for 2 watts output. Here is an interesting link about the JJ ECC99:

That looks like a good candidate for a firefly...

Would it be expedient to build an Liteiib with a ecc99 power section for a 2W to practice with or would there be too much to change? I've seen a couple low watt amps (example http://diyguitarfreak.wordpress.com/201 ... /#more-168) running the ecc99 split for push/pull... While I'm sure it's no EL84, I'm just wondering out loud if it could be similar in response or would be difficult to adapt to the spartan circuit.

People are using the ecc99 as an output valve for small amps. AFAIK the ecc99 was designed to provide an alternative to the Russian 6n6p in hifi circuits, which has also been used as an output valve for small amps.

Just for information, a 6SN7 in a nine-pin package is a 6CG7 / 6FQ7 , but you wouldn't get enough energy from those as an output valve.
