I disected one a while back. Took it completley apart. It was cool as heck. No telling what kind of toxic stuff I exposed myself to. lol! At least I didnt wake up looking like a mutant the next morning.

The inside of tubes contain some unhealthy materials. It's best not
to touch or breath in some of the chemicals that are involved. My
mother worked in a Sylvania tube plant and developed TB which
some thought was misdiagnosed and was really poisoning from
over exposure to the materials in a vacuum tube.

I don't know how bad they are, I like to think one tube won't kill ya, but for those who are inclined to tear up tubes for curiosity's sake, just be aware of the potential for exposure to nasty stuff.

I have to admit, though, learning that she worked in a Sylvania plant makes me feel as though my life is inextricably tied to tube technology.

Some tubes were radioactive.. they came in a brown can somewhat like a small pringle looking size thing,with a sealed lid..and had the yellow radioactive symbol on the can.
