36 watter

Ok, let me get this right(excuse me I am old)The 36 watt project
is like an 1959 Marshall, that is 4 el-34s but with el-84s With the same
kind of four tube push-pull layout? My memory and tube therory is
a little fuzzy, EE degree from 1974. Will this sound lots different than
say a jtm-45? Love the 18watter but the 45 is good also.

At this point, the 36W project is very much in the design stage so you could easily take it in that direction if you wanted to.

I think most of our guys are thinking of it more as an 18W with two extra power tubes.

In my experience the EL84's have an inherintly different sound and dynamics than EL34's. So I don't expect the amp to sound like a JTM45, more like a heavier duty 18.

For myself, I'm just interested in making an 18 watt that is louder and has some headroom. I'm also seriously considering using an EF86 in one channel just to have the option to cross into Vox land if I want to.

Humble opinion, take with grain of salt :D
